The Seckle pear a/o this AM.
Edibles - '09 - Part 4
Asian pears are pretty bland YC---my Mom has a few on her tree every year---Andy, that Seckel is loaded. Willie---that's a great veggie meal---of course, I didn't get one eggplant! Sherrie---you can make pepper salad & borcht---sounds like my garden.
DH harvested green peppers today.
Scraping the last of the blackberry sorbet out of the ice cream maker.
Sound yummy! Send me some.
MMMM..... sounds refreshing!!!
That's a good description of the government's approach to the economy.
Yum---blackberry anything!
i canned 9 jars of tomato's today and have maybe three jars worth of cukes on ice for tomorrow - been in front of the sink with bowls everywhere de-seeding the tomato's for 3 hours - neck and back are killing me - i need my wife to walk on my back!!
There will be no freezing of tomato sauce, or making of pickles here---my garden is pathetic! The best looking things in it are the marigolds.
robin sorry to hear that
I made the first batch of Chili yesterday. I had enough tomatoes and peppers for a giant batch. I should get 8 or 9 meals out of it. I freeze it in individual freezer bags for the winter. I gave a large steaming hot portion to a neighbor who gives me fresh fish from his deep water fishing trips.
I may not have enough tomatoes for a second batch, they are a mess. I noticed tomato hornworm damage while picking yesterday. I looked and looked for the culprit but could not find it.

Maybe a bird got lucky, Andy. I did pick green & purple beans for dinner tonight, DS picked the only zucchini on the bush---
I didn't think of birds, who knows? I looked again today, no nasty.
I have my eye on a few cantaloupe getting close. Everything needed second plantings, I'm happy with anything at this point.
I'm loaded with blackberries, the freezer is full, the birds can have the extras. B'Berries are hard to give away, not like strawberries or tomatoes. I may have to resort to offering them to the jerk neighbors, lol. I hate to see food go to waste. They are too fragile for the food pantry.
Enjoy whatever you can harvest.
wish we lived closer!
Oh, I'm drowning in blackberries even after reducing the the number of plants. Fresh on cereal, in pancakes, as a glaze over French Toast, with yogurt as an afternoon snack and a few while picking. My proctologist would be pleased, lol.
i have bell peppers!! it is time to make gazpacho!!
Wha, do you know a Mona in Pepperell? She's starting a photo site on my network, nice girl.
hi andy - only occasionally through dg when she has a question if mona is raven something.
what kind of photo's does she post?
Speaking of Mona(scicciarella), where's she been?
There are a few missing in action! Bill---what's your recipe for gazpacho? I may have a few tomatoes left, & I do have peppers.
it is right out of the martha stewart cookbook - sometimes i add in some shrimp which i will do this time.
it is a variation of this one - http://foodandpaper.blogspot.com/2007/06/soup-for-global-warming.html
in mine i do use some a cup of clamato juice instead of t-juice and parsley instead of cilantro
Wha, Mona likes People shots. I don't know any other screen name she may use.
I was just curious. Pepperell isn't that big.
thx Andy
Robin - the recipe is out of joy of cooking not Martha S. just made a big batch!!
Yeah I have been MIA, peeled jalapenos and did not wear gloves. I can not say what I called myself. Why did I do that? I thought I had a remedy. Well I had what I call 2nd degree chemical burns on my hands. Oh well another - Fuggedaboutit
Canned 48 pints of Salsa :-) Four pints I put the BHUT JOLOKIA in. Now eat that :-)
48 pints wow - i just did another 3 quartz of bush beans and 3 quartz of tomato's and my neck and back are killing me again - 48 pints and i'd be incapacitated.
I finally started getting more tomatoes than we can eat fresh - probably will try to make some homemade sauce and freeze it.
Oooh, Sherrie---bad burns---I stay away from the hot ones! Thanks, Bill----I make a similar gazpacho, but no hot peppers, & I use parsley as well---cilantro has an oily taste for me. I also add chopped green olives.
Sherrie, what are you going to do with all that salsa?
I would too!!
Yum Sherrie! Sorry you burnt your hands though.....I have a slight idea of burns from your salsa. lol Last year at Kassia RU I dove into it and had a red tongue and lips for hours later.
It was life altering. ^_^
Sherry, a similar burn happened to a friend a few years ago, peeling hot peppers. Not fun.
Pixie, I plant a pack of mix color peppers every year. Usually the Parks mix, they are the best. This year I tried the Berpee mix, all I have so far is green and purple. The varieties should be listed in the fine print.
I found one small tomato hornworm, there must be more to cause that much damage. I'll keep looking.
Warning.... We expect lots of rain, pick those ripe tomatoes or they may split. It happens to me every time because I don't water regularly.

WOWSER you guys are good. Just greens and toms happening for me. No beans yet on the red runner bean which is starting to tick me off. I do have wild cucumbers happenin but you're not supposed to eat those. It is with great sadness that I report that my one and only pea plant passed away when I was travelling. Memorial to be held at the Compost Pile tomorrow.
Sigh, D'Nut.
I'm loosing a 30 year old Mountain Laurel, no new growth this year.
Oh NO Andy! I remember that beautiful bush of yours!!!

I'm so sorry to you both!
