Shepherdsville, KY

Well I guess I will be heading to bed. It was real nice talking to you. Have a good night.

My internet server is on a mojito break tonight. Very slow. Central City is coal country. I used to back pack there. Went skinny dipping in the strip mine pools. I probably glow in the dark. LOL

OK why haven't we had a scramble for awhile? I go hollyhocklady's direction every so often and I guess I am going to have to stop in one day when I am there and see her. LOL
holly my x's past boss lived in Valley Station. I wasn't raised in Ky but spent a lot of time there as XH worked in the area. I did live in La Grange for a couple years and worked at Simpsonville Manufacturing.
seray, I was surprised to see you were from KY. Oh BTW my rose has another bloom on it seray. SOOOOOOO pretty.

Where is everybody this beautiful morning? I have already been out and set 3 hibiscus in the ground and some Gentian. WAKE UP EVERYBODY BEAUTIFYL DAY !!!!!!!

HI Flower

I think you've done a days work before I even got going. Coffee's good regardless of the hour. I did mail Blond a card and clean out a flower bed and pay a bill. Ready for the next stage of my lasagna garden today. Black Kow. :)

Hey you guys, I was out cutting grass before going to grand babys birthday party. She is 12 and getting ready to go back to school. Growing up. Got to go shower. Back later this afternoon. Behave Cue. Good morning all-save my seat.

Hornell, NY(Zone 5a)

Got in late last night after 10 days away. WOW, I've got TOMATOES!! Lots of them! Got lots of WEEDS too. Got lots of work to do too, welcome home huh.

Had a great time though on the Maryland - Delaware Atlantic coastline near Ocean City. Really hot hazy weather about 95 degrees kind of limited our beach time. Coming off my recent eye surgery the hazy beach scene was a bit much even with heavy sunglasses. I really didn't want to take a chance on burning my new eyes out, with good cause, I was feeling the pain already.

About 5 miles of wall to wall beach babes. Yes, ladies, there were guys there too, thousands of them! Probably the swimsuit capitol of the world. But that wasn't what was bothering my eyes

Went to a couple great parks also, but they're not really flower and garden oriented like we are. More beach and sand dune type scenery rather than flowers. I'll send pictures later.

Mekos,
I didn't see that anyone had answered you re: morning glory or Ipomoea? Morning glory is the common name and Ipomoea is the genus name for morning glory. So the answer to your question is: yes. (:o) Both names are correct and refer to the same plant.

Orlando, FL

hey all how is everyone,
i have had a long day and finally got to sit down,
started last night actually my sons breaker box caught fire and almost lost his house then at 4 am my son called to say his house had been burglarized, then went to football practice and got a massive sun burn on my face, i found homes for 2 more of my puppies i still have 2 more cuties left. i just got back in the house i need to go to the store and get some aloe.
i think a memory garden is a wonderful idea but i dont have any room right now, when i move out to the back yard here soom i am going to start one also.
hey are we doing a scramble tonight hmmm havent heard anything or is there another thread for that i missed i cant keep up with all the threads
de blond

Washington, IN(Zone 6a)

I don't think there is going to be a scramble blond. We haven't had one for a couple weeks now. arejay is off and busy somewhere ? Don't hardly see her on here much now.

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

I havent heard if there will be a scramble or not.. maybe lack of plant donations is the reason?

My memory Garden will not get underway untilt he veggies n the lasagna bed are finished, thats where the garden will go.

hey... I just made my own brug fertilizer using one of the recipes posted int he Brugmansia forum! I just did a foliage feeding and ground feeding, will do once a week and see how it goes. The bad news is... the inchworms are back.. blasted thngs! I THOUGHT I WAS RID OF THEM! Apparently, they regrouped, formed another army and decided to attack within the last few days... i been pickin them off my two brugs for the last hour. ick.

They got your number Cue. Something eats holes in all the leaves on my plants. Don't eat the whole leaf, just a round hole in every one out there. I know how ya feel cue.
Hey blondie, just got home myself. You better put some aloe on your face. You need to use sun block on your skin when you are gonna be out for a while. Hope you feel better. Good news on the puppies, sure didn't want to be tempted to drive all the way to Florida to get that yellow one. Whey!!!

Hornell, NY(Zone 5a)

Okay ladies, here's my mystery plant. I really don't know what it is. Found in early August bloom all over the mid-Atlantic coastline. Tree is about 12 - 15 feet tall. It comes in colors from pure white, pink, to deep red. Looks very much like our northern lilac but I'm sure it isn't, hardly any odor or smell at all.

Anybody want to take a stab at what it is?

lyco.. that my dear, is a Crepe Myrtle tree...

left un pruned they have a gorgeous canopy that will be completely pink with blooms in spring and summer so much so that the limbs will bend over and touch the ground. But far too many people commit 'crepe murder' by chopping them back in the winter... drastically altering their normally majestic appearence.. they really are quite spectacular when left completely alone!

Thanks Cue, they were so beautiful I couldn't help but notice, they were all over. Gorgeous tree!

Al

Hey AL, beautiful lavender it looks like, I have a few babies rooted in white and pink and dark pink, and have seeds for the lavender ones if you would like one. You would have to keep it in a pot for a couple years, but it would be ok to leave it outside through the winter in the pot. Plant in the ground when it's big enough.

here is what a Crepe Myrtle was meant to look like:

Hey Cue, those are georgeous, I don't trim mine either. I think they look better left alone.

Washington, IN(Zone 6a)

Hey I have always heard that those were not hardy to Al's zone nor mine. Does anyone know for sure because I have wanted one in each of the colors and never got them because of the hardyness here. I heard the zone area is 7 and up

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

Flower - crepe Myrtles are only hardy in the South to mid US. unless they have developed a more winter hardy tree, it wouldnt survive in your area.

WELL, just spoil all my fun.

Hornell, NY(Zone 5a)

Darn - I was afraid of that zone thing. I don't suppose they could be grown indoors in a container, then moved outside in the spring. Though I realize that this plant is a tree and not likely to grow very big if containerized. Are they grown from seed or stem cuttings?

Maybe I'll just have to enjoy my lilacs but they only bloom once in the early spring. Love the smell though.

Al

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

HI Everyone.
Cue I hate to tell you but crepe myrtles are hardy in Zone 6a. I have 3 here in 6b and I've seen them in the 6a part of our state doing beautifully. They can die back with hard winter all of mine have gotten winter killed several times since I planted them but they come back int he spring only problem is they bloom on old wood so if the whole plant dies back may not see flowers afterwards until the next year. Last winter my big pink one didn't die back but the bigger red one lost half it's shoots. I have been promised a start of a lavendar one this fall now all I like is the white one and I'll have all 4 colors.

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

Mine look more like a large bush than a tree though and they do have a light scent this year though the red one I can only smell it in the early morning.
Here's my pink one

Evening Everyone,

I see it's Crepe Myrtle time! Love those. Have them along the side of my property from former owners. They hang over the fence and the hummingbirds perch on the limbs. I also have one with burgundy foliage white blooms. Aphid Magnet!! LOL

Well, it's dark thirty out side and you can't tell much about them, but here are some of my babies. White

Here is a fuscia( I call watermelon color)

Thumbnail by mekos

Are they going to be part of your memory garden Mekos?

All babies from this year. Here is the watermelon bloom on an adult. (but it is dark out there, picture not good.)

Thumbnail by mekos

I got enough of those memories in my yard, don't want them in the garden. I grew them. My memory garden is going to be stuff from OTHER members.

Pretty Pretty. Will they grow in 5a?

I can look to see if I can find a small one for you if you want Al. I have watermelon color :), lilac and dark pink.

AL, I have a dwarf watermelon color that could stay in a pot always. I'll take a picture tomorrow when it's light outside. It's bigger and has a bloom on it now, but is still small. It won't get as big and tall as the others. It's for patios.
