This is my first month with burg's. ( Angel trumpet, ) Yes month... For the past 2 nights I have read the threads on burg's.

I have what I call the MOON BUSH. ( don't know the real name ) And this is my 1st year with DATURA ( 'Devil's trumpet' )

Here is a pic of my little bud's on my Rosalla burg. I use the name burg so there is no confusion.

Oh I need some pollen for this little lady. Any one have any?
no pollen, no seeds, no new burgs :-(

Oh you need to look at you red burg. Is it ( red sanguinea ?)
I just got red sanguinea & the burg Pro's tell me that this one don't like heat. I live in zone 6a & they say it's to hot here. I have to bring her in the A.C. I don't mind.

I will be back on tonight, Gotta go to the store. Take care all :)

What color will it bloom?

Shepherdsville, KY

Welcome back Al you should receive your seeds from me soon if they aren't there yet. I mailed them out Tuesday afternoon Hope you had a great trip

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

ok all, now you have my full attention...LOL. im yours for the rest of the evening.. as long as i can stay awake :)

mekos.. would love some of the white datura.. it will be the underplanting in the memory garden... and the brug from Seray will be its centerpiece.. yet another masterpiece made possible by DGers!!!

Welcome back Al! we have all missed that balancing yang to the overwhelming yin here in the thread...lol

Evening All,

Just got confirmation on the Brugs. 50 seeds on the way! Welcome Hollyhock. Cute little burg. :)

Welcome back Al. And Loca? Hope you both had or are having great trips.

Your sprouts are looking fine Mekos. I'm not very happy with the paper towel technique. Two out of the five didn't sprout. The ones that did were hard to get separated. I went back to coir in flats.

brain fag can't spell LOL

Woot!!! so we are all gonna have brugmansia AND Datura to sprout thanks to mekos and seray.. our heroes!!!!

OOOOH! I am now so excited about the memory garden!!! yet another project.

For those of you who do not know.. I have wanted to create a memory garden in memory of both of my older sisters, who both passed away within 3 months of each other. One from a battle with cancer and the other in a car accident 3 months later. This all happend as my father was coming home from open heart surgery and as i found out i was pregnant with my son.. a very very stressful 3 months.

the brug is in memory of them, and to remind me that tho they are not physically here, they still watch over their little sister from a better vantage point.. and the datura to represent those of us still here, waiting to see them again.

ok.. enuff of that.. dont wanna depress anyone...lol... just thought peeps might wanna know the history behind the memory garden.

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

Thank you Cue for telling about the reason behind your memory garden I was wondering who it was in memory of. I hope to plant one later with plants that have names of my family members in the culivator name. My parents and one sister are already gone and we may lose another sister soon.

More reason to grow these Angel Trumpets. Who else needs to trumpet Angels?

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

yes, unfortunately, even tho my sisters are watching from a far better vantage point, they still left me here with 3 big dumb brothers! two older and one younger... just WHAT they were thinking when they left me here to manage them is beyond me.. before, we each had one brother to pester and keep in line. Now, I have all three....ROTFL

I can relate I had four younger brothers. Eeeeeiiiiiii Never ends ya know. :)

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

this is so true...LOL

Sorry you guys, I had company till now. Cue so sorry about your sisters. They will always be there watching over you though. Hi AL, welcome home and waiting for pictures of all the fun plants and places. We should ALL do a memory garden of some sort to remember our DG family. Maybe this brug thing will start mine. I need to think of something special in memory of all my wonderful friends here. I know, we all send some seeds to each other to plant in the garden. Like Arejay just sent me sage. Blondie just sent me some lilies, lots more, but that in particular, that would go in the garden. I got to think of all that I have and who sent it and if it will grow out there in the garden year round. Lots have sent me stuff, but some can't grow there except in the summer. Those will have to be kept in pots in the back ground. Hey this is good. I'm going to work on all this. Will figure it out by the time the lasag. bed is finished. What do ya think? A DG garden???

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

LOL.. all my gardens are in essense, DG gardens as the majority of the plants and seeds came from you wonderful people.. however, I like mekos' idea... ya'll already know which flowers in your gardens will be from me.. its my mission to bring black flowers to the world ROTFLMAO

My lasagna garden will be my first in the ground garden. That's for hostas I have in pots. The plunge garden will be broken down this fall and then I can redesign with all the plants from DGers. The veggie garden is in earthboxes and I have a way too many containers. Gardens for the future: Rose garden, daylily bed. Then I have the whole front yard to re-landscape.

This is what I'm going to do with my lasag. garden, It's going to be a memory garden from the DG members. I'm going to be working on who sent me what that can go out there year round and get it going and put a bird bath or something in the middle, maybe a sitting bench or something cute. Got to do some thinking and get some ideas of what to plant, from who, on paper first. This will be my contribution. My DG garden. PICTURES WHEN FINISHED.

Shepherdsville, KY

cue_chik, I'm so sorry about your loss. Wow it kind of sounds like my life in 1991. Found out I was pregnant with my son Josh in 01/91 & in 02/91 my best friend had a blood clot on her brain & we lost her. She was the sister I never had. Then my 17 year old brother was killed in a motorcycle accident in 07/91 & had my son 11 days after that & his lung clasped we almost lost him.

And.... On07/24/1992 I planted a maple tree in his memory. Well we had a heck of an ice storm here in KY last year & it took out the power & tree.. I just told my husband last month that I was going to plant a tree again. I think I will join you & plant a memory garden. What a wonderful ideal... Rhonda :-)

Good night everyone, got to go brainstorm. (and find me a mojito).Hehehe

Shepherdsville, KY

Well I will be working on 2 gardens next year. My memory garden & My DG garden.
One in front yard & one in the back yard.

Confessions of a Garden Addict - By Cue

the most comfortable outfit i own is my grass and red mulch stained 'yard t-shirt' and a pair of old worn, and paint splotched shorts.

I have dirt under my nails more often than not. as well as dirt on my knees.

I have a 'farmers tan' and Im proud of it.

weeding is at the top of my 'to do' list.

my back patio resembles a mini version of a garden center.

I window shop in garden centers and local nurseries, instead of clothing stores

i browse seed catalogs close to the holidays, instead of jewelry catalogs.

more often than not, my neighbors seek my advice on plants.

mulching is not decorative... its a way of life.

I talk to my plants.. and occasionally sing

my neighbors think Im crazy.. because i talk to my plants and occasionally sing.

i rearrange my garden as often as some people rearrange their living rooms.

snakes, spiders and frogs are garden buddies.

coffee grounds and banana peels arent garbage, they are free fertilizer!

Pine needles and grass clippings are a legitimate mulch!

I rescue orphaned, sick, injured and dying plants.

i secretly plant things in my neighbors beds when he isnt looking.

i secretly fertilize my neighbors flowers when he isnt looking

if I could hug my plants without hurting them, I would.

I name my plants.

Im obssessive about rooting plant cuttings.. even when i have too many already.

I collect seed from everything

I even try to sprout birdseed.

i take vacations just to spend more time in my yard.

Im a pathological deadheader

and last but NOT least...

i have been known to set an alarm to wake up in the middle of the night to catch night blooming plants in bloom!

Shepherdsville, KY

Good night to all.

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

alright. so we are all planting memory gardens.. i think thats a brilliant idea.. when we have gottent hem planted, we can post a pic with a short story on its history... and share a bit of ourselves with our DG friends...!!!

Shepherdsville, KY

OMG you are just to funny! You know I have done a lot on that list. LOL

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

I think we have all done some of those things on the list...LOL.. ive done them all

Shepherdsville, KY

That sounds great cue_chik..

Shepherdsville, KY

LOL, I take seeds from my neighbor... She's my aunt.

Your list is a true addicts list Cue. :) Gardening seems to be the perfect therapy for loss. I'm sorry for both of your losses. My plunge garden was therapy for family loss also. Once you start digging it's hard to stop Huh. LOL

Rhonda I have a brother in KY who lost a lot of trees this winter. I own property near Barkley Lake and was raised there. Been to Shepherdsville many many times. Great country ride from Louisville where I used to work. Used to collect fossils in the road beds there.

Shepherdsville, KY

I was raised in Valley Station ( Louisville ) But I could never go back to city life.
I love the country life.

Shepherdsville, KY

Sorry I am slow at typing. My n's & b's don't work. I have to copy & paste them. GRRRR

Don't blame you. I always lived outside the city limits when I worked there. Worth the drive.

Just leave them blank and we'll have a perpetual scramble going. Cue and Blond would be the ones to figure it out the quickest. The rest of us would need a pen and paper. LOL

Shepherdsville, KY

This place is growing like crazy.... When I first moved out here you might see 5 cars all day. And now its like Dixie Hwy...

Shepherdsville, KY

I never could find the scramble thread. lol

Yes it was a ways out when I was there. I went to school there early then we moved back to Western KY. Jr. High at Butler. LOL

This is it. We're just not consistent due to vacations etc.
