Miniature hollyhocks

W of Cleveland, OH(Zone 5a)

I just bought 5 miniature hollyhocks. I googled plant instructions and have been watching videos. It sounds as if they sow seeds all over the place. Does anyone have any experience with them? I'm just not into dealing with them if they like to take another plant's space. Thanks!

but even if thats the case, and they self sow, that shouldnt be a problem if you deadhead.

This is my first attempt at growing them this year, however, i grow most flowers to use in vases, so i am constantly deadheading and dot have a problem with anything self sowing.

dathen,

I am curious about your hollyhocks. I have never heard of them being miniature.

Where did you get the seed? Do you have any links to sites that 'talk' about them?

Cue is right about removing the stems when they finish flowering. If you get them deadheaded before the seed is ripe you shouldn't have a problem with them spreading all over you beds.

I would point out that hollyhocks are short lived, you might want to save some seed, just in case.

I just sent this and it didn't "go". Hope it doesn't come up twice. Here's a shorter version.

Cue and Dale - Thank you for your responses. Good to know that deadheading will take care of any spreading. I'm dealing with a previous owner's trumpet vine and it is a constant irritation, so I'm leary of anything that might spread.

Dale - your garden is lovely - thank you fro sharing the picture. The real name of this plant is Sidalcea Malviflora - Party Girl - Prairie Mallow. The lady at the greenhouse just called them miniature hollyhocks. I just happened to see them and fell in love. They are on Plant Files. Not sure under which name - I went there from google.

Thanks again for the help. Dathen

Ahh, that is a plant I know.

The hollyhocks above were in a public garden...that is not my beautiful garden.

I rarely show my place, other peoples places are more interesting>
