Rose bush transplant

North Carver, MA

I received a white rose bush in a foil-covered pot and would like to plant it outside. Any advice for doing this successfully? Thank you!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Pick a spot that gets at least 4 hours of sun.
Remove it from its container and gently loosen the root-ball. Dig a hole that is at twice the depth and width of the root-ball. Build up a pile of topsoil in the middle of the hole( I mixed composted manure into the hole)Locate the crown, or bud union. This is the bump in the trunk between the branches and roots. Arrange the roots of your rose bush around the soil pile, so that the soil holds the crown of the bush at the right depth. In MA you'll want to plant the crown 2 to 4 inches below the surface. Fill hole with good garden soil. Water, I always "jiggle" the plant a little to get any air bubbles out and to settle the soil, you may have to add more soil after you do this. Enjoy.

Happy digging!!!
