My Morning Glory Adventures continued..August

I have a problem with the chairs.. I can't see thru them, which ofcourse, gets me up after I look around..

This new patio set is too big, I miss my picnic table and small round table setting.. but I guess I should be happy and grateful for this new set from the kids for my birthday.. I keep my small special plants on this table.. out of harms way.. I am babsitting four pods on Ronnies kawaru, two pods on my Purple queen Iochroma ( there is that name again ), my desert rose, and my bonzai japanese cedar.. ( really? Its' japanese? I have a huge one out front that is just plain old cedar and it looks the same) that my son got me for mothers' day...

I can't see dead ahead either.. so that really makes me get up to walk around.. even with my camera on zoom it just isn't the same

Thumbnail by joeswife
(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

as I turn around, I am about to jump up, gasping.. the beauty that is to come..overwhelms me..

Thumbnail by joeswife
(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Gosh dang it.. how come the neighbors get to see my beautiful things before I do?? *sigh* it isn't fair I think to myself..

Thumbnail by joeswife
(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

As I turn full circle I keep in mind that almost all my beauties were just tiny little things that I seriously didn't think would make it.. the Salvia lady in red, the lantana, the coctail gin begonias.. all growing and blooming , producing seeds as well..

I feel snug and comfortable sitting here, my helenium and jasmine, hibiscus and Iochroma, cestrum and Cleodendrum, baana tree, all those things I wintered over, here to greet me when I come to sit..

Behind me the water tub, the sunflowers, the empty bean patch, the brazillian morning glory, moon flowers, tall cosmos, evening primrose, hot lips salvia ,yellow pear tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, well , just a little of alot of different things to please my eyes when I sit and gaze..I anxiously await the sprouts of the new morning glory seeds I planted last night..and coo to my newly transplanted brugmansias..

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I sip my coffee and look up, all twisted around.. and admire the morning glory climbing the evening primrose..and remember the country trips I took a few weeks ago, how the wild glories twined the tall field wild flowers, and I know in my heart they like it that way..

So, I get up, get my camera, and walk thru the flowers to start at the north end of the garden, where the tomatoes are..
the four o clocks are still open, so are the moon flowers...I see a huge pink bloom just like I knew I would..by now it is almost 8 am..

I try desperately to capture the moment ... the vivid colours .. the pink and blue, against the greens, Sybil is a dancing with Ronnies' LavenderPurple, and someones' pretty blue has joined in..

This was what I had hoped for, these vines combined to give a wonderful contrast to each other...

Nicole, I am so sorry it is so hot there.... I know you yearn to be in your garden, and Marie, I have a pecan tree somewhere on this block, I keep finding them growing in my pots and barrells every spring where the critters have stored them.. what we mow over alot are sycamore tree seed balls.. I hate them.. I throw them back to the yard they came from when I step on one... girls and guys.. we are gonna have a ball with the seed pods from Sybils' Dance this next spring.. (Miko No Mai)

Beautiful blooms Debra. Glad to see your back yard curtain back this yr.

Debra - Your photos and tour of your garden was wonderful! Such a great day you had! I love your squirrels. Yours have more tan/brown on their fur than mine. Mine seem to have more gray color. Boy! Are they ever cute!!! You have such an amazing selection of plants! All your MGs look great growing in and around everything! Beautiful!

Your yard looks great!!

I am slowly trying to get rid of more of my lawn. I want more garden beds in the middle of the backyard with paths winding here and there. I want to add at least 3 more garden "rooms" in the backyard. I hope to add a lot more seating too. A small pergola is my next project. Maybe with a wooden swing hanging from chains like what Nicole has on her pergola. No deck though. Not in Florida with the termites. Eek!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I wish I could use more yard.. Tropic man has exactly what you are talking about, the paths and the little room gardens.. I love going over there and getting lost in his wonderful Tropical heaven.. My Joe likes grass.. He loves to mow it and make sure it is all "leafless" from the trees.. I think I need more flower bed, I will just keep making them a foot deeper every year and see how that flys.. tonight I found this growing in the pot with the Xiongs Chinese from Liz.. the Xiongs on the fence is going crazy, no blooms, the one in the pot is just now starting to fly about.. but this little pink bud will prolly make me late to work, cuz it looks like a HIGE.. One can only hope.. I had a package of old hige seeds from a trade, I am pretty sure I put them in here.. I am also waiting on all the "yellows" I have collected.. Kawaru is about to bloom again, I love its neat straight up angle of its' blooms.. This little vine is twining around a giant cosmos dazzler.. the cosmos is about four foot tall now.. it can hold this dainty little thing..

Debra - Kawaru? Or are you talking about Kawaii? I am asking because I have a vine I grew this year that the seeds were labeled Kawaru. I want to see if my vine really is Kawaru by the bloom photo. Some of the seed trades I received may have been marked incorrectly or were crosses. I'm just trying to ID some of my own...

My dh had the same idea. Only lawn. Each year I add another bed or two. Hee, hee! And the beds get bigger! LOL! I think my dh has figured out my game plan. But it is too late now ... more beds and the lawn is getting smaller and smaller. LOL!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Well, it was tagged Kawaru, and was from Ronnie, so that is what I am calling it.. I thought it was the chinese evening glory at first, then Ron C let me know it was something different..

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

He ID it as Kawaii.... I have no clue really.. ask ronnie ..LOL I love it.. here is that little flower bud un raveled.. it could be one I had tagged red feather, or it could be one I had tagged HIGE.. any ideas?

Hmmm ... hard to tell for sure in the photo. Feather/Hige means the same thing to me. Split petals is what they are. You'll get lots of blooms from that one now that it has started blooming. It's an I. purpurea vine as well, so you should get lots of seeds. Nice bright pink color!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Really?? YAY! the person that gave those to me said they were really old .. I have no clue how old, but the packet was really old .. like me :P~ LOL
nite shot of Lavender Moon Vine.. cool... I got the stars!

Here is the one by the door step.. you can see the original growing cup there.. Iput newspaper in it to hold in moisture, the bottom is out and in the dirt.. looks yukky, but I don't care I have a bloom anyway.. so far all the moonvines ( Lavender) have produced pods from each bloom..they are huge! you can also see the messina creeper leaf.. I am going to pull that one out this weekend.. no way will I want that there..now that I see what it does.. it can stay on the fence line..

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Tonight, I went over to the neighbors to trim the grass around their side of the fence, since he mowed.. we both hate the burmuda in our yards.. anyway, I thought I would take a picture of what they see from their side of the fence..

Thumbnail by joeswife
(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

This is their side of my Brug/Vine corner.. that trumpet vine is only three years old.. they get to see Emmas Mix, a few of Liz' and all of rebeccas, soh, pure white, and the rest.. while I was there, I noticed what I am thinking a pandurata popped up in the mountain of dirt left by the trench diggers from when they had their sewer line dug up, he is letting it grow at my request.. they also have a nice hederacera blue mounding vine that I planted last year over there that is looking good.. will get shots of those this weekend..

in this post here.. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6909022
I incorrectly identified this, it is not cameo elegance, altho I have one growing that has similar leaves, instead it is MiniBarRose.. Cameo elegance is down the fence away, tru leaves and vining, but not ready to bud out yet. I apologize over my lack of intelligence on the MG forum..

I also had planted a shibouri X grey Lady of beckys ... it has not vined yet.. it is in the I. Purpurea pot ..a mistake again..

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

While looking for tags I found this hidden by the I. Purp pot.. I will be moving this one as it looks to be another kawanii..

this Jishi from Becky isn't as happy in the ground as the one I have in a pot..I will be moving it as well this weekend..

We will see if a second try at flying saucers in the ground will do anything it is supposed to ( from ebay)
