Lovely photos!

Hart I have a few of Tod's and Pooche's Dahlias! Such generous people!

Ooooooo! Love the color of that dahlia. Chantell, we need a scratch and sniff forum.

Chantell, You should add you Orange Peel picture to plant files, it is missing a "in bud" picture. There are only 4 pictures of it so far.

Scratch and sniff forum? LOL That's great!!! Should be the name of the fragrance forum, eh?
Chris - I did...it's just pending review. I get so excited when I have a pic that there aren't a million of on its plantfile page...takes so little to amuse me, I guess...LOL

Gita, that black thingy is what I'm talking about. Use it if you love it, but be prepared to buy more memory cards because eventually they will get scratched up and your photo quality will be bad.

I prefer just downloading from the camera so the memory cards aren't getting scratched.

Our Kodak had to be restarted a couple of weeks ago and we ended up using 7.0. It's a real pain and some puters running windows have a problem accepting the apple updates. But as Hart said it does have it's advantages, file sharing is easy, as is emailing a few pics to friends. Our current cameras are kodak's, a Z612 and I carry an old CX7430 as a back up, in case Holly forgets to charge hers. LOL I've been drooling over the Cannon D40 since they came out. I'd really like to get back to the SLR features.
Gita our brug we got from you has 12 buds in various stages of development. Holly said she has never had one like this. Ric

Holly, Can Ric come play in my yard? Please?Your yard is beatuiful.

Ric, any idea on the names of the 'Wild' Caladiums, or source? I am interested in the biggest leaves possible.

Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

Wow, Wow, Wow - beautiful! I think this is going to be banner year for us MA'ers. Usually by August everything is fried but with the cooler temperatures and glorious rain things are getting better all the time! I certainly don't have as much 'color' as you do but I'm happy to just see green at this point instead of dried up and brown! LOL I'm hoping we have late frosts - I just planted some annuals I started around the end of June and if I'm lucky I'll have flowers in September - better late than never :)

I wonder what happened to my post? Oh, well, try again.

Beautiful, Ric.

Sally, if you want big leaves, try gunnera, which is a waaaay cool plant with humongous leaves.

hate those lost-post experiences
hart thanks for the links- a couple of cool plants no doubt. Have you grown them?
I was at my sister's and she has some hosta doing well and a few white-variegated foliage items so I was thinking maybe some big caladiums would do well and add color in pink or red.
I've been so lazy with pictures lately Here's a surprise sunflower that came up just where it was not supposed to do well, crammed in next to an old rosemary But full warm sun does wonders for sunflowers apparently!

Catbird, LOL Ric and I were out watering tonight and looking at all the things still to do. Even weedy and unfinished I will say that I love my garden. I especially love when giving garden tours telling friends and neighbors about how this plant came from one of my DG friends. My garden isn't just filling up with plants but memories as well.
Sally, I got my Caladiums from a DG Co-op they have run them each year and both the prices and the bulbs are great. They usually run the Co-op in Feb I think. They come from Caladiums4less. This year I picked up a couple of big Port Odora they were slow starting with the cold weather we had earlier this spring but are getting some very nice size now. I'll get a couple of pic for you tomorrow. The largest of the caladiums that I have is the Red Flash, Florida Cardinal and White Christmas.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

What was the name of this one? It sure has beautiful, huge, shiny leaves and also blooms on tall spikes....
This is from my cousin's garden in Latvia--from my trip there in 2008.
Of course--these were still early in their growth season. Hart--I believe you ID'd these for me.....

Gita, Are the flowers yellow and star shaped?

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Looks like bergenia aka pigsqueak, Gita. Love that common name. LOL If the flowers are pink or red, that's what it is.

I haven't grown gunnera or rodgersia, Sally. I'd love to but I'm afraid it would be way too dry for them here.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Holly--I have NO idea! I have never seen this plant bloom. I just know what I have read here on DG.

Sorry!

How does this grab you? The second total flush of blooms on the "Maya" (aka Peaches and Cream)....

Thumbnail by Gitagal
Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Here is a closer up of some of the blooms.
I swear---it is identical to the first flush I had--that just blew me away. That might have been in early June?

To me--this whole plant is getting the size of a small tree--and it will be hard to find room for it in my basement. By now--I also have the Rose Souvelons (the one I gave you) and another one....

Then there is the Charles Grimaldi (CG) that looks just like the Dr. Seuss. it is still just growing in a pot on my Patio. The one Chantelle gave me at first....

Frankly speaking--AHEM.....I am getting sick and tired of these.....Too big! Too much attention needed! All that bringing in for dormant stuff! Taking and rooting the cuttings---Babying them until they grow--then trying to find homes for them. The "thrill" is long gone!

The endless watering and need for fertilizing! The aphid attacks and--hopefully--no way! The Cyclamen Mites destroying these overnight. The BIG plants in the BIG pots that will just blow over in a windy storm--breaking off buds and flowers and leaves. I have 4 bricks sitting on top of my big (20") pot of the Rose Souvelons--and it still has blown over!

When, and IF you ever get to this stage--plant them in squatty, stubby pots--NOT in ones narrower on the bottom. These won't blow over so easily. Better yet--bury half of the pot in a bed--that way they will stay put.

I would almost give these all away--but no one here has ever heard of a Brugmansia! Not sure.......

Gita

In the beginning it was like--OH, My God!!!! Noe it is more like--Geez! What do i have to do now?

one---

Nothing wrong! It sure has grown!
Just let it grow and do it's thing. Don't be surprised if it gives you a bloom or two in October. Many times, I have had to wait that long on mine to see it bloom.

Don't know if you remember--last fall I dug up the "Maya" and cut it all back--making sure I did not cut any branches below the "Y". That is the same one that has now given me these two HUGE flushes. Yours is the Rose Souvelons---all green leaves.

All the cuttings I shared this year were from above the "Y". I see two "Y"'s in yours. It will be OK!
Are you feeding it? Brugs are real "pigs" and eat anything you throw on them....Something like 20-20-20 is perfect....

sorry for the confusion... that one was not from you this year... I got it at Kassia's RU last year... and I might not have read your directions last fall... wasn't really reading this forum yet... but thanks for the advice

Onewish--

I thought that the one you showed was rather tall!!!! All the rooted cuttings I brought were just 10" or so. never know--maybe you had given it some kind of supersonic food.............:o)

As promised, these fragrant hosta bloom in August. Now I finally know why Hosta are sometimes said to be fragrant! The label is one that claypa cut and bent for me, but you can't make out my paint-pen writing here. Thanks again, claypa.

Sally,

Mine looks just like yours! It is also called "August Lily"--dah!

I am following the cliff-hanger Post by Jill in the Prayer Forum. They are waiting to the baby to be born that they will be adopting. It is now 10 past the due date. Seems the whole world of DG people are praying and hoping all comes out OK. Picking names and dates of birth---"sitting up nights" and sharing coffee and sweets....so cute!
It is now on part #5--but they are all linked--if you have not read any of it....

onewish1,That sounds exactly like my past experiences with Brugs, They grow and don't bloom until the very end of summer. Lucky if I got a bloom or two out of them before fall. I see pics of ones like Gita grows and just swoon. I can hardly believe how many blooms are on this one.

ahhh you beat me to it...LOL...was just thinking we should announce it some where over "here." ^_^

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Happy Happy Day. I have been following along, also. I just loved the name they picked and the thought that went into it.
Sally, Love your Tropicanna. I have been getting my Cannas from DG Co-ops the last couple of years the bulbs come from Horn Canna. This year was not a good growing year for my cannas. Between the cold wet spring and my not getting everything planted when I should have I don't have near as many blooming plants as last year. These are putting on a nice show for me and making a nice back drop for the pond. I wanted something that would help cover the mechanics of the pool.

Thumbnail by HollyAnnS
Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

This pic is a little closer and you can get a better look at them with the pickerel. The taller bloom on the right has opened since this was taken and it is bright yellow. I really like the begonias in the deck boxes (shown in last pic) but they get more sun there than I think they should. Will have to find something different next year to put in the boxes.

Sally here is my Port Odora. It was slow starting but really looks good now. You can only see 2 leaves but there is another on it's way. Remember how big those rocks are.

Holly, It all looks great. Finally got my keyboard fixed. Pain in the butt on a laptop. Do you have any luck getting Cannas to return? I only had a few come back for a second year and then none at all. Of course you know who may have eaten them.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Stormy, I have been pulling my Cannas in the fall and over wintering them in tubs. That first year was a real toss up couldn't decide if I wanted to try and over winter them in the ground or not. I have a real dilemma quite a lot of my plants won't overwinter in the ground and must be dug up. But I'm never sure how many will still be good for the next growing season. The DG Co-ops that I have been participating in start early in the season so the ? is to buy or not to buy and if I do buy which ones might I need? If my stored bulbs are good then I don't need more and if they aren't then I have missed my chance a the great co-op prices. This year I have Cannas, Caladiums, Calla Lilies Tuberose, Port Odora, Begonias and Dahlias.
