I think I've been lurking more lately than posting. But I'm still here.
Coffee Break # 16 - (Drowned) Dog Days
Would anyone post on a Lurkers Forum?
I would for sure (snort)
I can't answer you I'm just lurking...
DNut, there is a candle making forum, it's the "soap and candle making forum"
:O Zipping over to check it out...
You're just too funny.
Debilu, have you gone on your train trip to OR. yet?
Too funny, dnut!
No rush.
This is way better than watching the news. Don't think I've watched the news for some time now.
Same old news - we are the antidote.
I always pop in to the jokes and humor forum after reading the on line headlines....
I particularly like this one, from morganc
Aging Aunt Mildred was a 97-year-old woman who was particularly despondent over the recent death of her husband. She decided that she would just kill herself and join him in death.
Thinking that it would be best to get it over with quickly, she took out his old pistol and made the decision to shoot herself in the heart, since it was badly broken in the first place.
Not wanting to miss the vital organ and become a vegetable and a burden to someone, she called her doctor's office to inquire as to just exactly where the heart would be on a woman. The doctor said, 'Your heart would be just below your left breast'.
Later that night... Mildred was admitted to the hospital with a gunshot wound to her knee
That's an oldie but goodie!
that is funny!
No, we are postponing until next year, when we have more time to spend longer - I've been meaning to let Shelly know we're waiting a year - I have a week off, we are starting it with a Pirates game with KC playing after with fireworks, should be a fun show. We've done a couple so far and the music and fireworks are fun together.
Don't have plans after that, but will do something. We often hit Harve de Grace, and/or the Jersey shore, and Lancaster PA to eat. The first time we went to Harve de Grace I looked at a map to see what we could do between a couple other places, and it looked good on the map. Now we've been there at least 3 times, cute little town with the best ever crab cakes.
This Friday me niece is getting married near Utica, then Saturday we are catching a train to NYC to visit my son. Figured we'd be a third of the way there, so why not. And it's been 6 weeks since he moved so I think it's been long enough to wait to visit!
Finally got a chance to work the gardens today. It's still real hot out.
Carbgrass is out of control.
What do I do about my milkweed? It's now attracting wasps and flies, it's nasty. Should I cut them down or will that wreck the life cycle of the monarchs?
As long as they have some leaves to eat, they will be fine. You won't get seeds, but you may not want them anyway. They always cut a field down here, so I'm always bringing eggs home to save them before they get chopped up.
Sounds like fun, Deb. Enjoy! Say hi to David and Lindsey for me. I'm hoping to get into the city with my kids some time next week.
I read that they are selling Viagra ice cream in England! (SO many possibilities!!)
where are you going with that one Victor? =:0)
London!
DS & DH went to Europe in June & July. Everywhere they went, there were lines for ice cream - I think you should expand your horizons - Victor's multi-country V.I.C. tour...hey almost your name!
I atended a luncheon with retirees from school today---several were taking a trip to the Maryland shore, Chincoteague, & Cape May---a bus trip sponsored by the town north of us----wish I was going to Cape May---one of my all time fav places. You'll have fun, Debi---
Oh, Deb, I think it is definitely time to visit.
I think you'd have a great business there, Vic, being a tour guide to all the ice cream parlors in England. What will t hey think of next?
Have you ever visited Longwood Gardens, Deb? Might be a thought- on your way to Havre de Grace or Lancaster.
Hee hee - after that ice cream it certainly is longwood.
Oh, I am SOOOO sorry that I set you up for that one, Victor. Sheesh!
You get the assist!
you never need an assist, Victor!!!
Hee hee - thanks. It makes things easier, though!

Ugh, I was making a plum cobbler and it massively overflowed, filled the place up with stinky smoke...can't exactly open the windows on a nasty night like tonight. UGH!!!
that's when dogs come in handy...smoking plum cobbler. hmmmmmmmmmm.
share your recipe, please - i love plums.
First time making it and even though it overflowed it tastes pretty good.
I had some really sour plums that I needed a recipe to sweeten them, actually could have added more sugar.
Plum cobbler
4 cups of plums chopped and pitted.
2-2 1/2 cups sugar(depends on how sour the plums maybe more)
4 Tbls cornstarch
1/4 cup water
a little sprinkling of cinnamon.
Mix together in pot Let stand 10 mins then cook until thick and bubbly. Keep hot
For topping mix together....
1 cup flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp cinnamon(or more to your taste)
Cut in 3 tbls butter
combine in seperate bowl 1 egg and 3 tbls milk add to flour mixture stir till moistened
Pour fruit mixture in a 8X8X2 baking dish(next time I'll put a baking pan under this)
Drop topping in 6 mounds on fruit
and bake at 400 degrees for 20-25 minutes. . Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
This is the next one I want to try...
Purple Plum Chiffon Pie
1 1/4 lb Fresh purple prune plums
1 c Sugar
1 1/2 pk Envelopes unflavored gelatin
2 Egg whites
1/2 c Heavy cream, whipped
Whipped cream for garnish
1/4 c Water
1 tb Lemon juice
1/4 c Water
Dash salt
1 Baked pastry shell (9")
Wash; halve and pit plums.Place in large saucepan with 1/4 cup water.
Cover and simmer over low heat until tender, about 10 minutes.Puree
plum pulp and liquid in blender.Measure 2 cups puree, adding water if
necessary.Add sugar and lemon juice.Stir until sugar is dissolved. Soften
gelatin in 1/4 cup cold water.Dissolve over hot water.Chill until slightly
thickened.Beat egg whites with salt until stiff, but not dry.Fold egg
whites and whipped cream into plum mixture.Pile into pastry shell.Chill
until firm.Garnish with whipped cream, if desired. Makes 1 ea 9" pie
sounds yummy Jen
I forgot about Longwood, thanks Jan.
Debilu, or anybody, If you do go to Longwood anytime, please le tme know. I'm only about 40 min. from there. It's a favorite place. I always took my class there when we were studying botany. However, one can't linger when shepherding (corralling) a class. :) One year I took my mom once each season. She loved it. If you can go when they have fireworks, it's spectacular, or to take in a play or concert.
Those recipes sound great, Jen
Yum. Those recipes sound like something I could try.
There are NO birthdays today :O Quick somebody birth someone and sign them up. They will have the whole birthday for their own!
Good thing he did not go for the tail!

That is just way too funky weird. I could understand Cinderella but Minnie Mouse? Did Mickey bop him in the nose I wonder? There just is never enough info in the news I find.
Oh, I thought he was in the costume. duh.
