All about herbs here please! Do you floral design with them? Do you have a pizza garden? Do you do it in pots? Just what is it do you do with yer HERRRRBS! Aaaaah the fine essence of herbs, their oils, their cookery... ok, show us those herbs!
I always wanted the Scarborough Fair herbs in my garden & now I have
parsley, sage, rosemary & thyme...
I love my thyme, have pizza, common, silver, orange, & lemon thyme - although for some reason the lemon is struggling - I have tried & failed to grow it before.
Yet the other varieties are thriving.
I also have Hot & Spicy oreganum & Golden oreganum.
That is a lovely decorative herb.
I pulled my sage out as it was spreading too much Mum gave me Purple Sage & cuttings of Pineapple sage.
I have a couple of different types of mint but they are all form cuttings so noids.
Love me some pinnaple sage. I don't have too many herbs, just a big container of Ditany of Crete with Puerto Rican Oregano, both strictly ornamental.

Dalfyre your herbs looks healthy, you've got a great collection! I would like to grow some Golden Oregano, such a nice decorative plant too.
My herbs are all quite small, I planted them all this year.
Mint, Sage, Thyme, Corriander,Parsley, Oregano, Chives,Basil planted in boxes with pot marigolds and begonias.
I've been cutting them and making mixed herb ice cubes with them so far.

Here is my tricolor sage again. I noticed this morning where I took cuttings off of it to try to start new plants, the momma plant has taken on some more color. Before she was just looking two toned and now has some purple showing up in her leaves. Here is before the purple!
Here is the purple coming on! You can see it in the stems and in the new leaves!
nice tri colour sage.
I grew coriander but nobody here liked it so I let it go to seed & that was the end of it.
Shame because it grew really well here.
I would love some English lavender, but can't think where I would put it.
Maybe one of the new mini varieties...
I have French lavender which is pretty in flower & a nice grey green foliage.
it is a really old bush & I got too carried away pruning it so it looks like a sadly twisted standard now.
I had to tie it to the terrace railing to keep it from falling over since it is a bit top heavy.
If I didn't like it so much I would rip it out.
I could fit another rose or real lavender in the space it takes up.
It did look nice with a stray poppy growing up through it & the roses & allyssum...

Here is my golden sage. It is different than the tri-color. It is like a lime green on a darker green very pretty. I dont use sage...but like it n ornamental. Maybe I will preserve some for someone later. I also have just the regular green sage!
I almost got some parsley seeds today. But since I dont like parsely I did not buy them but then I was sorry because my lasagna recipe does call for parsely so I think in the future I will try growing it fresh.

I tried rosemary and thyme. Dint have any luck with them!
Here is my pineapple mint. I dont know if this is also what is called pineapple sage... I think mine gets lil red flowers.
I have two kinds of oregano, one has white flowers and the other purple.. have no clue as to what they are, they invaded my garden from nextdoor...will have to take a pic of the one oregano.

I sure wish I could grow lavender. I dont really even have good luck with that in pots!

You've got such a great variety there Blossom! Does chocolate mint smell like chocolate? What would one make with it darling?? LOL! Fresh parsley is much nicer than dried Blossom, you might like it!
I haven't been to my allotment for a couple of days (thats where my herbs live). Next time I go, will take some close up
pictures.
The mint was flowering, wasn't really sure when to cut it and I don't like mint all that much!
Hi terri, ooooh yeah, chocolate mint smells just like the real thing. I think its just one of those for the nose darling. Its aroma therapy without any calories!! I have mine in a hanging basket now and it is looking marvelous. I will have to take a new shot of it tomorrow to show you!
I also have chives and spearmint. There is catmint growing wild in our woods.
I will dry the chives. I dont do anything with the spearmint or catnip. The spearmint is invasive and has taken a huge lot in my flowerbed. I hanf fern leaf tansy. It too has become invasive or must really like where I have it. I need to yank some of that monstor out! It is lovely in the leaves and has some pretty yello flowers, but mine hardly bloooms. I have no clue what you do with tansy other than make flwoer arrangements of its blooms
Will have to get the camera out tomorrow and show you these.
I forgot that I have chives, they are just starting to come up now.
I did have garlic chives in a pot for several year but they turned up their toes - I tried putting them into the garden but don't think they have survived.
Will have to buy some I think, they are pretty with the white flowers & taste good too.
I don't think I've neard of tansy! Will be interesting to see what the flowers look like.
I don't know what type of mint that is in the teapot!
How do you dry your chives, hanging up or spread out or what?

Heres my chocolate mint, this is the best ever I have done with it. I hope I can winter it indoors.
My varigated ginger mint in a hanger! Its doing well. First time I tried it. Dont know what its used for other than aroma! And a pretty hanger!

My chives. These are onion. they just went to seed not to long ago so the pot will be loaded next season. I will probably have to divide it this fall though. Does anyone have any secrets to getting them to grow? Like what kind of fertilizer?

Ok, well, I actually did not get a second motion on the making of a new herb thread so I will table that for the moment! SO, hows everyones herbs doing?
mine are looking good - except the lemon thyme...
it is in the same bed as a thriving common thyme & silver thyme.
The only difference is that the lemon is a cutting from my Mum & the others were cheap box store babies.
All my other thyme varieties it has been easy to grow cuttings off those original babies.
I have pizza, orange & silver thyme in among the flowers in various garden beds.
Those cuttings are thriving.
So I have to wonder if lemon thyme is just a delicate beast or if it likes different conditions to the rest?
DOnt really know dalfyre, I have not had much luck with thymes at all! Do sho pics ok! I have never heard of a few you mention!
I just took some cuttings off my chocolatemint. Hope they start.

Awww it is soo sad! How does one make it perky, I wonder? Could you try digging a part of it up and put it in a pot. Grow it out in the pot for a bit then try to find another spot in the garden where it might be happier? I cant tell from the pic if it is diseased, buggy or just plumb unhappy with its location. Maybe the soil is not to its likeing or not enough sunor shade? Something is definitely making that poor baby unhappy.
Hereis my flat of chocolate herb.. I got brave and gave the hanging basket a hair cut.
I am debating on starting a flat of the varigatied ginge mint. It needs a whaacking back.. but I dont know if I should go starting the cuttings due to lack of space. I am going to have to see what I can kick out of the GPS5.
