Powdery Mildew

southwest, OH

I went back a few pages, looking for info on powdery mildew. I found this thread http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/975442/ (the issue turned out not to be powdery mildew). That thread and this site http://www.dgsgardening.btinternet.co.uk/mildewpowdery.htm both recommend using baking soda mixed with water, sprayed on the leaves. The dgsgardening site recommends using 1 tsp. baking soda to 1 quart of water. Are there negative effects to using "too much" or too high of a ratio?

I definitely have powdery mildew on my mini pumpkin, spaghetti squash and jack-o-lantern pumpkin leaves. I bought some fungicide from Walmart (can't remember the name, but it was the only one they have) and used that on all of the pumpkin plants. I used the baking soda/water solution on the spaghetti squash. I want to see which works better. (fingers crossed!)

I'm also wondering if every bit of mildew has to be coated with the spray--do I need to really soak the leaves, covering every bit?
