August Flowers

(Zone 1)

Mike, Yep ... that's the name that was on my cutting.

LOL, I have trouble enough remembering my own name some days, it really does get confusing trying to figure out changes with plant names! I never even knew names of plants were ever changed until reading about it on this forum, regarding hoyas. Good question of whether or not it happens with other plant Genus'.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Ted sells, what is called by 'other people' CMF8 as H. cagayanensis. DL determined that H. pimenteliana is correctly H. cagayanensis and that would nullify H. pimenteliana as H. c.....was published first. Names change all the time....

Minneapolis, MN(Zone 5a)

Thanks, Carol. I'll change the name on my plant to CMF8 with a note as to the name of the plant when purchased from Ted.

I use CMF 8 which was the first assention number....can not go wrong there!!!!

Another look at Hoya SP. Hat Som Paen (IML-1438)

I guess all the questions were answered...thanks Carol. I wanted to make sure I listed both of the names to prevent others from buying duplicates...like I did :0( Hate when that happens!

Great photo of IML 1438 Ric!

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Rick....is that how the flower stays....or does it recurve? The flower is UNIQUE!!! Love it. What do the leaves look like?

Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 9b)

Thanks Joni!

Carol......that flower is about 6 days and I think its closing back up. Initially the corollas were reflexed back. I like the the pink blush coloring the corolas get as the flower ages.

Cape Coral, FL(Zone 10a)

Ric, love that IML-1438.

Here's H. sipitangensis. The whole plant enjoys sun - as you can see!

Love that beautiful foliage!

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

And the flowers smell so good!!! To me it is like freshly mowed lawns!!

Christina...where did that H. magnifica you sent me come from? I have some info. on it for you....will send you in an email. It's NOT H. magnifica (per David Liddle) but a new species....

jeri: That's a really pretty kerrii!

Joni: Whatever one it is ... it's Beautiful!

York, PA(Zone 6b)

Yes...here are the leaves!
Any clues...maybe H. callistophylla.
It came to me as H. meridithii a long time ago...clearly is NOT that one.

I got this longifolia cutting in the spring and now it's budding madly. Here is the plant.

Closer. The scent was heavenly last night but gone this AM. I'll have to check again at dusk.

Boojum----That flower is beautiful, but I think it's shepherdii, not longifolia; I could be wrong on this (and I hope someone else speaks up) but I believe longifolia flowers are pure white and it is shepherdii that has the red in the middle of the corona...either way, it's just lovely and I bet it starts smelling wonderful again tonight...

Joni: Nice leaves too! The veining reminds me of one I got from another DG'er in trade a couple of years ago labeled Aff. finlaysonii (not sure of the spelling.) I love foliage with prominent veining. Geesh .. is veining even a word? It sounds weird but I guess y'all know what I mean?

Boojum: Your longifolia is very pretty! It looks a lot like one I have called shepherdii that recently bloomed for me for the first time. H. shepherdii smells heavenly too!

Cape Coral, FL(Zone 10a)

Christina, H. sipitangensis is a beauty! I lost mine.

Boojun, Yep! it's shepardii. Smells great!

Central, LA(Zone 8b)

Thanks Lin!!!!

Joni regardless what the name is the blooms are beautiful!!!!

I have no clue who PStheHoyan is, but I just went back and read that entire page! Geesh, it sure sounds like she is a very unhappy, angry person. Made me remember the old saying "Don't get your panties in a bunch!" Life is just too short for so much angst, gotta feel sorry for folks like that!

Waterville, VT(Zone 4b)

Boojum, very nice shepherdii. I wish mine would grow, let alone bloom. Joni, very nice Hoya. I hope it is H. callistophylla, because the bloom is beautiful and mine is growing like crazy for the first time in three years.

Doing the happy dance. Glad to get your ID all!

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

Oh Joni, that is just gorgeous!! Doesn't matter if it has a name or not.

Dee

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Joni....if the "end form" of the flowers is to be recurved...i.e. H. callistophylla...it is hard to tell the flowers if they are just opening and the corollas are not recurved. It could be H. callistophylla or any of that family or any of that family crossed with something else.

P.S. The Hoyan...the woman who writes that 'review' is a bitter lonely old woman without the audience she had when she edited/wrote/ran The Hoyan which was the newsletter of the International Hoya Society. Her newsletter was a wonderful collection of opinionated news. She now has no audience...and is therefore screaming in the dark...but she is knowledgeable ... but antisocial and opinionated. She does have good information at hand...but is often so tainted by personal opinions, lies and false stories that it really isn't worth reading her articles. Hatred and bias are killers of credibility.

Carol, my magnifica comes from Botanova back in 2000. I'm waiting for that e-mail with info you were going to send me...

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

My shepherdii had scent at dusk. Does that mean moths or bats for pollinators?

Waterville, VT(Zone 4b)

H. fischeriana a first time bloomer for me.

Here is the entire plant. I bloomed this one once before and killed it a month later. This
Hoya uses very little water, and is really easy to over water. Most of the time it can go two weeks or better without a drink.

Wow, some of y'all have lots of great blooming Hoya's this month!

Doug: That H. helliwigiana has such cute little flowers, but I wouldn't even care if it ever bloomed with those pretty leaves!

Waterville, VT(Zone 4b)

Thanks Lin! The leaves can look really redden up and look nice on that plant.

Doug

Hoya excavata

How gorgeous are these...not just another clunky large leafed hoya now?!
I wonder what the 'shell' on the flowers might be?

Still in bloom!
