Woo ... that pottsii foliage is Gorgeous! I wonder why I've never ordered that one? I think I am going to add it to my wish list right now. The bloom is pretty but Oh, those leaves!!! I would grow that one mainly for that beautiful foliage!

Waterville, VT(Zone 4b)

Beautiful Pottsii Christine! Here is a first time bloomer for me H. kenejiana.

Sweet flowers!

Waterville, VT(Zone 4b)

Here is a NOID that is probably some type of carnosa, I received it from Susan from Virginia a couple of years ago, and it finally bloomed. Here is the flower. The leaves are different from other carnosas that I have so I'm not really sure what it is.

Here is H. linearis, which I am surprised that I have been able to keep it alive let alone bloom.

Last first time bloomer for me - H. kanyakumariana.

Doug: kenejiana is really pretty, I like that color! Lovely noid too, I have a couple of noids with buds that I think are carnosas and can't wait to see the blooms. Congrats on that beautiful linearis! My plant kicked the bucket really quickly after I bought it from the EA website. It was a nice big, full plant but I think it was dead within a month! That's the first time I've seen a picture of a linearis bloom and it sure is pretty!

Thanks!

LeeAnn, this is the plant I bought from Pike Lake as H. cinnamomifolia...

Doug, beautiful flowers! What is your secret to getting linearis to bloom? Mine grows fine as long as I let it get good and dry between waterings, but no flowers despite lots of light.

I have a little (very! little) kanyakumariana and it is one that sure seems to be a sloooow grower! I look forward to some day seeing a pretty bloom like that on my plant!

Waterville, VT(Zone 4b)

Christine, I don't know what I did to get it to bloom truthfuly. It is one of the few plants that I have left in semi-hydro. I water it once a week, and it really likes its summer home pictured below.

Lin,

I agree that kanyakumariana has got to be one of the slowest growing Hoyas ever.

(Zone 1)

And, what a nice summer home that is! Those plants look very happy and healthy!

Waterville, VT(Zone 4b)

Thanks Lin! I just spent three weekends building a small addition to my greenhouse. It is now six feet wide by 13 feet long. There is no more room for expansion, and if VT were not so cold it would be great to be able to use it for more than four months a year!

Very nice! I can envision knocking down that side wall on the house and building a glass extension, either encompassing the green house area as well or just adding a nice sun room onto that side of the house! But, then again ... I've never been to VT and I know it gets extremely cold up there in the winter ... it would probably cost a small fortune to heat it!

San Francisco, CA

Great flowers all.
Joni, it's so good to see you posting your beautiful flower pics here again- I missed them the latter part of last month.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Beautiful flowers! I am looking forward to my linearis doing more than just growing this year...but I should be thankful it is growing and not rotting!!!

Minneapolis, MN(Zone 5a)

I have to grow my linearis very dry during the winter or it rots. I have heard that linearis likes fairly cool conditions. My plant blooms quite a bit during the late winter and early spring and I have it right next to a window where it is very cool (cold) during the winter.

Beautiful photos, everyone! Please keep 'em coming!
Mike

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9a)

I have my linearis inside during the summer months. I will return it to the greenhouse when it starts to cool down.

Hoya lacunosa 'Ruby Sue'

same great scent with a tint of purple on the flowers

Ooh, I've never heard of lacunosa 'Ruby Sue' and she sure is pretty! I don't see the hint of purple, maybe a little blush, but my eyes aren't the greatest ... I really am way past due for an eye exam!

H kenejiana with a new bronze leaf.

Nice!

(Zone 1)

That is sooo pretty, love the size of the leaves and that bronze leaf is wonderful! That bloom is gorgeous too, is it from kenejiana?

I've never seen H. kenejiana in person and when I first saw someone post about it I was thinking kentiana, which is totally different.

Minneapolis, MN(Zone 5a)

That leaf doesn't look like the leaf from the H. kenejiana I had when I grew the plant. That leaf looks more like a H. onychoides or H. macgillivrayi leaf to me. My kenejiana leaf was very rounded on the end and sort of oval with kind of wavy margins, if I am remembering correctly.
Mike

Cape Coral, FL(Zone 10a)

all the leaves belong to H. kenejiana.

(Zone 1)

I thought I read that sometimes a plant can have leaves that are different shapes, sizes etc. on the same plant, maybe cultural conditions?

Ok, I went googling and found some more pictures of Hoya kenejiana:

http://www.hoyor.net/en/showspecies.php?id=113

http://www.aleyagarden.com/hken.html

of course when I google: "images of hoya kenejiana" I get a mixed bag: http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=images+of+hoya+kenejiana&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=3ZB8SsiuCumStgfH8_nzAQ&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1

Some of the leaves as bigger then my hand, about 8"long.

Wowsers! That is one humongous leaf!

Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 9b)

Wow......what a leaf!!! Gourgeous!

Here is Hoya hellewigiana with the corollas un-reflexed. I like this hoya....the flowers are about 3/4".

Thumbnail by ricfl
Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 9b)

Hoya's estrangend cousin Stapelia gigantea. The five point flower is about a foot wide. Smells like rotting flesh in order to attract flies. This plant has over 60 buds so the flies will be happy for a while. Its a real freak when you consider flower size in relation to the plant.

Cape Coral, FL(Zone 10a)

For the smelly flower, that's the reason I like to enjoy someone Else's flowers. LOL

Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 9b)

Here is a better picture.

Jan.....it is a bit of a problem, you can smell the stinch from far way. I have a white butterfly ginger which smells heavenly, a few feet away and the Stapelia stinch over powers the Ginger.

Pretty H. hellewigiana!

NOW .. that Stapelia has an AMAZING flower! I like the looks of the plant and have thought about buying it, but not with that smell! Gee, it has such a beautiful bloom .. wish someone could come up with one with an identical flower, only with a nice fragrance ... or even no fragrance! A really gorgeous starfish looking bloom!

(Zone 1)

Same old, same old here ... wayettii still blooming away, so I just went out and took a picture.

Beautiful shot!

(Zone 1)

Lee Anne, I took 32 pictures and that's the only one that was decent enough to save! ☺

Ruby Sue is so pretty! Why can't I find hoyas like that? We must talk Joni!

Kenejiana is such a lovely flower Sunshine. You didn't want a cutting of that one LeeAnn. Why not? Too yellow?

Helwigiana: very pretty, nice to see its flowers, and nice to anticipate.

I'll pass on the stapelias, although very pretty,l the DH barely tolerats some of my hoyas in bloom....

Lovely flowers Lin, sure wish my wayettii would grace me with flowers instead of more and more leafless tendrils....

Thanks for sharing everyone.

Christine.
