Strong scent of grape and the flowers are lasting over a week now!
August Flowers
Beautiful, Joni!
Thanks,
Mike
Oooh, look at the beauties to start off the month of August! H. subcalva is on my wish list ever since I read that it smells like Welch's Grape Juice and it has a pretty bloom too!
E. coronaria is amazing!
Wow, Joni ... everything is really outstanding, you have some gorgeous blooms!
Thanks Mike!
Lin,
The smell of grape kool-aid is very evident throughout the bloom cycle all day and night.
Very yummy!
Happy August everybody!!!
Joni
oooo...goodie!! get 2 ^_^
Lovely shots Joni. Tell me, is sp.Tanna Island a large growing plant? Mines taken off and Im not sure what its going to grow like.
Dominic
Thanks Dominic!
No...sp. Tanna Island is not a large plant...relatively small leaves. I've got one that seems to like to stay bushy and the other vines out everywhere? Of course my plants stay small since I regularly cut on them.
Joni
Joni---beautiful flowers....but I thought Tanna Island was pink?? Maybe amount of light? Please keep sending us photos---love them and gives the rest of us hope :-)

Ric, that is a nice bloom photo of H. pusilla. I don't think I've ever seen that one, is the foliage small?
Lin, the leaves look a bit like H. lacunosa leaves but wider, more oval.
Awanda, love that carnosa bloom, it sure is big. H. deykea is pretty ... I have trouble taking pictures of white blooms too ... always a glare!
Lee Anne, that is a great shot! I love this Hoya but mine never seems to be a happy Hoya!
That is a lovely picture Lin!
My multiflora was never happy either until I potted him up into a clay pot. I let him "almost" dry out before watering and mist him morning and night. The clay pot helps with the watering because I can kind of see where the moisture level is...he's growing in a north window (Canadian North window).
That's interesting about your multiflora. Originally I kept mine on the dry side and it failed quickly. Someone suggested that it might like more water so I repotted it into hydroton and a little water. I KNOW that I need to do something else soon! I need to let it dry out a bit because it was in an area of the deck that got a lot of rain so the poor thing is waterlogged! I'm making myself a note to take care of it tomorrow ... before it's totally dead!
The second picture is 'Red Buttons'...the first one....?
First one looks a bit like publicalyx cv'Jungle Garden' to me, especially with so little spotting on quite thich dull green leaves ? Just a guess

Lovely!
I like the shape of the flowers on that one, is it fragrant?
Thanks Lin,
Very light fruity scent.
mmmm!
Very nice!!
Wonderful, beautiful pictures everyone! I just took 15 shots of my pubicalyx's first flowers in 3 years, and all of them are horrible. They need sunlight instead of the flash I think; I hope they stay around for the weekend when I'm home during the day.
Well anyway, my Australian pottsii is blooming and look how red some of the leaves are. It gets quite a bit of sun in a west-facing window.
