August 2009 Bingo Calls

I got one call today! Gail, the AV Pip Squeek link doesn't work. :o(

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

Nothing for me today,Darn I need to work on that hat!

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Sure you don't want me to post 'the original'?

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I almost selected that bigger picture of Pip Squeak......she had three posted.........thanks for helping, Nichole!!

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

It is kinda cute, for a mini . . . ^_^

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Nichole........I posted this 'freebie' from a vendor with his order today but you have to see her. She is called 'Baby White' and her blooms just glisten......she is in almost a pot the size of a big thimble.

Thumbnail by gessiegail

I can see the glitter in the flowers. That one is really gorgeous, Gail!

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Which vendor?

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

avpat told me about him. I love him..........hope she doesn't care that I am posting all of this, but she loves to help everyone so I don't think she will mind.

He is a wonderful guy named fred whose store name is: The Greendragon Trading Post
and his user ID has the word greenmule in it.........search for his store..........

Let me show you how tiny the plants are so you know exactly what you are getting. The trailers have two plants in them as so do some of the semi minis.....I will need to divide them........be right back.......

They are 'buy it now' for 3.10 and worth every cent of it and more............just think what a leaf cost and his packaging takes you forever to undo because each little plant is perfect upon arrival.

Pip squeek is adorable, but not on my list, BUT Iced Canadian sunset was! Its pretty too.

How pretty are those!! I will not get mine until next week, I think he ships on Monday and/or Tuesday's. Love that white one!!

I would love to find an AV that is BRIGHT really BRIGHT, mine are either very dark or very light, now I want BRIGHT. I don't care if its mini semi standard or whatever, just think a BRIGHT one in my window would make the others look good!

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

Nice violets Gail. You sure did capsure just how lovely that AV is!

Go for it Nichole,I need my luck to change this game.LOL.

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Well, if DH's I.T. guy had free time today, he was going to copy the hard drive onto DH portable hard drive . . . so you still have a few hours at the least to come with another one!

^_^

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

Changed my mind.LOL.I'm going hatless this game, maybe that will change my luck ^_^

Laura, you need AV 'Mac's Carnival Clown'!! That was probably my favorite AV that I ever grew and got to see bloom. I really loved that plant. LOL http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/164646/

Jan, you're just beautiful! Seeing your picture makes me realize just how much I missed seeing you this year! LOL

Edited because I realized that I called Laura "Lynn" by accident. I don't know what I was thinking... Sorry about that, Laura!

OK< Jan!!! This is not 'fair'............you are so young!!! And...........cute as a button, too!!! So glad you posted. I love to have someone's face to put with a name. (although I saw your hat last year)

I just potted up babies of Summer Carnival and I gasp when I saw the picture of her for the first time. She is not bright, but beautiful

I also divided Summer Carnival today. I got eight babies out of it. Planted as you instructed. Fingers are crossed. SC in person is an awesome sight to see!!

I'm a little late, but I got another 1. We drove all day yesterday and will do so a good part of today. Traveling to Michigan, for my husband's first reunion in 43 years with the guys he was with in Vietnam.

About The Greendragon Trading Post, all I can say is that Fred is the most reliable vendor I have ever found. His plants are not huge, but they are strong and healthy. Often they arrive in bud or even in bloom. They will never arrive damaged. You have to see the way he packs each plant. I'm sure Gail will vouch for that. Gail, how long did it take you to unwrap all those plants?

Have a great day everyone!

Pat

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I got so frustrated unpacking them (just perfecto packing) I had to take breaks..........but I also learned a lot about packing small plants...........will try some today when boxes go out.

Have fun with your hubby and his buddies from the past.

Highland, IL

Oh, all soooo pretty!! Love them all!!!!! So many pretties and so few windows!!LOL

Laura H

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

UH OH..........that means gro light stands (smiling).................and then you can cram a lot on one gro light stand............

Highland, IL

ok, I have 2 grow lights set up downstairs and one in a lamp upstairs on a couch table, nothing downstairs under the lights yet, I always want the blooms up here, but need to get the leaves I have stuck down there, how many hours should I put it on? It has 4 T5 grow lights, help me please! LOLOL You are enabling again, so now you got to hold my hand!!! LOLOL

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

OH no, someone will have to come along that knows what T5 light gro lights are................laughing at you..........this is fun!!!

I don't know what I have............the lights.......but I leave them on 11 hours a day.........but I know for sure they are not the T5...........
I get mine from Indoor Gardening Supplies (IGS)

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Gail, I think your lights are T12's. If the bulbs are fat, they're T12, if they're skinny, they're T8. I'll let you know for sure when I stop by next week.

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

LOL Janet,I been waiting for you to Bingo any day now!

Highland, IL

I just ran down and looked, its T5, yes yes I'm sure now!! I even wrote it down before I ran back up here to post!! I found them online here:
http://www.sunleaves.com/catalog.asp?cat=1

Are they the wrong ones?

I have one today, melon wedges, woo hoo still in the game!!!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

maybe some can tell you, but I heard that T5 are the latest and best lights, but I don't know anything except that you can run your lights for much shorter periods of time.

Someone who knows, will you help us learn???????????

Highland, IL

WOW! I had no idea?!!! I had read that they run a lot cooler and I have a huge fear of a short or something causing a fire. thats why I got them in the first place!! I used them to start seed and my baby plants for outside on a timer downstairs.

Now I'm really excited about using it!! Laura H

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Isn't it unique that my greatest fears in life are heights and fire (since I was in a bad car wreck and had to get out of my car in flames to save my own life).............but I have no fear of having 8 sets of gro light stands on all night long in my office and all day long in the other rooms.

Now you are giving me concern about fire..............I had never even thought about it until now.........

Ottawa, IL(Zone 9a)

i have t8 lights & they are much cooler & 35 watts, they also have a metal tip, they work wonderful, have not seen these t5 until now.
bonnie

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

oooo, Betty is very pretty! I love those silver leaves!

Highland, IL

Oh Gail!!! I'm so so sorry!!! This fire stuff has been beat into me, my brother-in-law was a volunteer fireman for many many years in Colo., its so dry there and he has haunted me, between that and way back before the seatbelt law. I was wearing my seatbelt before we actually had to. My husband is one of those "safety first" type, he is a plant manager for a chemical plant in St. Louis. Soooo, I really do not have much choice!! If you have them set up correctly I'm sure your are fine. Just don't plug a ton into one of those old extension cords!!

I'm just now able to cook something all day in a crockpot with out being home!! When I was single I did it all of the time with no problem. Took years for Kevin to not be nervous about it! LOLOL Thought I was going to give him a heart attack!

Heights use to never bother me, but the older I get, I can tell I get that squimish feeling. I guess I'm realizing now that I'm really not invinceable!!

Again I am truly sorry for scarring you. Laura H

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Gail, I think if you plug your lights into those surge protectors, you are pretty safe--they shut off the lights if there is a power surge or overload. Gotta read the package to make sure that;s what you are getting--not all provide the same functions. And I've always been afraid of heights! Which is bad cos I'm short! lol!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I have surge protectors on all my lights.............and I also have a safety thing with all my new electrical wiring three years ago when I remodeled.............the switch just goes off with any problems...........(in the box)

When you are deathly afraid of something, you heal slowly and then can be turned back in a second. With 2nd and 3 rd degree burns in the hospital.................it takes a while to get over the fear of hurting that badly ever again.......or anyone else for that matter..........

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

I understand....Sorry

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Life is life (smiling) so no one apologize.................
