My 'Salad Bush' cucumber has just flowered, but I don't know if this variety has separate male and female flowers. This is the first time I'm growing cucumbers, so I really don't know what to look out for. Here's a picture of the bloom from the side. Would really appreciate any advice from anyone who has grown this variety or is an expert on cucumbers!

Gangajay, I'm really not an expert on the blooms, but it looks like a male bloom to me. I have raised cucumbers for years and never really paid any attention to male or female. Just be patient, your plant looks healthy, so it won't be long until you have cukes running out your ears. Hang in there.

Thanks! Being a beginner, I'm just impatient about everything :) I was so excited when it finally bloomed, I just had to grab my camera and take a photo. Well, from what I've been reading about other squash type plants, once the male flowers emerge, the females shouldn't be far behind, so I'll be patient and dream about cucumber salads.
jay, those r def males. u will know females bc there will be a tiny cucumber on the base end of the flower. i was worried as well but in a matter of 10 days i went from all males to 2 huge cukes. be patient they will come. i will try and post a pic of a female tomorrow

Jim, it's good to know even experienced gardeners get impatient! It certainly is exciting seeing things grow. I just had my first long bean. Although there are just two on the plant right now, it really is cool watching them get bigger every day.
