Wood for raised bed and fall plantings

Charlotte, NC

I want to make a rasied bed, something tall, so I don't have to crouch down, I don't have money for wood, but I have this huge 16 foot board that is 3 inches thick, 12 inches wide. The issue is, I don't know if its pressure treated or not, and it has been painted on both sides.

Is there something I could put between the board and soil to make sure no leeching of chemicals occurs?

Is this really a big concern or not really?

Also I live in Zone 7, Charlotte NC. 6 hours sun, what are some good veggies I can plant now, that are really easy? This is my first year gardening, Thanks!

Ryan say hi to my mom she moved to NC from NY last July and has loved the zone change.

I would think thick plastic sheeting would help with any leeching concerns. You could try wrap the boards and staple it in place.

For fast growing try veggies try greenbean, lettuce and radishes.

My mom had pansies blooming when we were in Charlotte over New Years. I have zone envy.

You should be able to discern if the wood is pressure treated (even though it's been painted as you say ) by looking at the wide surface of it. Pressure treated lumber has a complexion on it that looks like a million staple maks in uniform pattern all over it.
