This is a photo of my broccoli I have no idea what they are doing this is my first time with broccoli and lettuce can anyone help me PLEASE!!!!! I'm getting so frustrated, someone told me to cut them down and see if they would produce and I did that to a few of the broccoli plants but the only thing I've seen was some small side shoots, is there anything else that I can do?
Once you let it flower, that 's it unless you want to save seeds. You pick the flower heads before the flowers bloom out. If you cut the flowering heads off, you have a chance at side shoots. These have to picked before the flowers open also. Probably your heads were small and you let them bloom out waiting for larger heads. Regardless of the size of the head, it must be picked before more than one or two blossoms open.

So how do I save seeds, I'm new at this so I hoping you were speaking of seeds that I can save to replant next year? I'm just so frustrated because I'm new at this and it's like where do you find directions of what to do with different veggi plants? or is it just trial and error? because my romane is doing the same thing I believe! and the canteloupe I don't even have a clue of if they grow under ground or what because I do have flowers on them also but I don't know where they grow from. on a vine? or what? I'm just confused!
Packman is a hybrid, but you can still save seeds if you wish. Might be a bit different next year and really more trouble than its worth, but we do this for fun anyway. Just let the little pods dry on the plant,the shuck them out, store in a cool dry place and they are ready to go when you are. Many seed companies and all county agricultural extension agents have generic guides. Sort of like a cookbook, follow the directions the first time, modify to your taste as gain experience.
Cantaloupe grow on a vine that runs 6 ft or more. When ripe most change color and let go of the vine (slip)

I would strongly suggest picking up a starter book like The Vegetable Gardener's Bible by Ed Smith. It has a lot of general info, how to get your soil ready, how to plan the garden, and some solid information about every major veggie and the planting dates and schedule would be useful for you.
For instance, broccoli and lettuce are planted as early as the ground can be worked and harvested before it gets hot. Snow peas and sugar peas are the same way. All can handle light frosts and some snow even.
