Earwigs in Corn

Hello

So I have earwigs in, on and around my corn stalks and silk. I have heard that these critters are good at keeping away aphids, and other such harmful pests, but I've also heard that they get into the corn, and can destroy it. Does anyone have experience with these ugly little things? Also, there is some brown sludge with them, is this their fecal matter, or eggs they are laying by chance? Help! :) thanks much!
