Coleus & ferns not doing well

Venice, CA(Zone 10b)

Oh the joys of a new garden! So our other issue is with the coleus and ferns around our shaded water feature. The ferns are looking brown and hardly growing, and the Coleus have, or are losing their leaves :- ( Could this be because of too much water? Slugs? Something else?

Also, I'm thinking it might be good to plant some moss around the water feature. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Please post close up photos of the ferns and the coleus so we can try to help you.

sont ask me. I killed mine

Thanks. The fern still has green so I'd let it be and just trim off any brown fronds but the coleus appears to have been devoured. Lift it, if you love the plant, and give it a good washing and replant in a pot of fresh soil and see if it rebounds. Mine often do. I'd suspect earwigs were the culprit yet I don't know if they're a likely suspect for your area but they certainly are here.

Put some compost in with the Coleus to help it bounce back to growing.

Good luck. I bet they both survive and do well.

Birdwood, Let me when you get your back and how you did it. I had a pink chao coleus that I LOVED. unfortunally I am a beginner and drowned everything. I am thinking about getting another one now that all the plants are on sale. First, I need to recherch more about them

Over watering causes most plant failures.

Will let you know how it goes.
