Took this pic of the side garden early this am after the rain stopped.

Back slope garden I reworked a bit this year. All the rain has the weeds growing back before I have been able to get the mulch down again. :(

Andy I meant to say she looks very relaxed surveying her kingdom and I love how the light is streaming through the trees.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Beautiful!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Very nice!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Totally luvly! My white liatris reverted to purple. Maybe yours did too? ewww about the cannabalistic slugs.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Thanks guys. My liatris have always been the purple ones, 'Kobold' or something like that I think.

If ya want 100% something you can eat.
Dont bet your life on it. 3/4 of my veggie garden is gone. Lost 60 tomat plants now.
Things dont look right like I have said before, time and time again.

Even my friends and neighbors are getting "SOMETHING" Today a phone call from a friend 20 miles away - My green string been plants are rotting and tipping over.

I am done - will I come back? At this point I dont think so. Even the flowers dont look right.

My subscription is getting done in a couple of days. My heart is not in this no more. Love all you people and you have my 100% to do gardening.

Sherrie also known as the Schickenlady.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

sherrie sorry to hear that your garden has not preformed this year - do not give up this has been a freak year - and if you use the stuff i posted on your t-plants it will hold off the wilt as well as rust on hollyhocks and any other plants that get fungal disease.

things are not going well here either - have lost no t-plants and no sign of blight - should have t's in the next couple weeks - not as many as last year even with the blight we had then due to the wet weather this year and rain keeping the bees away. - eggplant and peppers are slow as well as the basil although they are showing signs of fast growth with this heat wave

on the bright side the bush beans are screaming along - just bottled two more jars - and picked the first summer squash that will be coming in fast and furious from now on

should have t's in the next couple weeks - not as many as last year even with the blight we had due to the wet weather and rain keeping the bees away.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Please don't give up Sherrie. It has been a very frustrating and disappointing season for you but this is only one season and there is a whole new one coming up soon. I started taking advantage of the seed sales and planning for next year already ^_^ T&M has a great seed sale on right now http://www.tmseeds.com/ilist/sale.html
Last year I was devastated when I thought the catsitter killed all my dahlias from willful neglect but you know one day I was watching the chickadees throwing cherry pips at each other and I realized that I was taking the whole thing way too seriously. Every day there is always something in the garden to make you smile, so now I just focus on those things no matter what else runs amuk (and believe me I usually have much amuk happening at all times).

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

It's been a rough season for most of New England. Here it was the worst hail storm in memory right after I planted the tomatoes and cold crops. Then it was all that rain, cold and sunless weeks.
Slugs and snails invaded in record numbers.
It's been discouraging but I could never give up gardening. I have a dozen tomato plants and still send extra tomatoes to the food pantry in good years. (Ate my first one today.)
Much of my broccoli is either dead or stunted. I picked ONE full size head and a few wimpy ones so far. All the Kohlrabi was eaten by slugs, 1/3 of the peppers meet the same fate.
The cantaloupe is struggling and the beans had to be planted a second time.
The list goes on with frustrating similarity.
Last year was a super growing season, this year we're paying for it.
We'll be sorry to see you go, Sherri. It came down to a coin toss for me a couple years ago. I had too much going on-line and got frustrated with stuff here. Now I stick to just a few forums, all is well again.

Another back yard pic. This shows the fruit trees in the background with the berry patch / nursery in the center. You can see the edge of the bird bath on the left and figure out where I was by looking at the thread starter pic.
I wish I could find a neighborhood kid to mow the lawn.

Very nice scene Andy. My DH would agree with you about the grass. Finding a day to do it when it is dry enough between showers seems to be the trick this year.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

I wish we could split the difference with you - I'd love to give you 20 degrees & a BIT of your rain.
It is now 6:20 pm & 102°; very humid - very NOT Seattle type weather. The broadleaf evergreens are all curled up & wilting. I have watered non-stop for the past week. This weather will pass, and even if this year is a bust, there is always next year.
For me, the garden grows hope & a vision for the future.
Our typical summer is what you all are experiencing, minus the rain totals - you win on that one!
It is so very discouraging to lose so many plants, but so very worth the effort to continue.
Sherrie, I think you deserve a much-needed break, and should take one posthaste! Your hard work will not go unrewarded, as there are other things to harvest from your experience. I have never lost 60 tomato plants, but what all I have lost over the years has taught me a number of ways to thwart the elements.
I don't know how long your growing season is, but if you can grow through September, you have time to plant those crops which do not rely on heat to grow. No one can predict how the weather will play out, but it may very well be worth the time & energy to try again.
I wish the very best gardening to you all!

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

I have a rock in my garden that reads: Where there is a garden there is a gardener with hope.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

jumper where exactly is this rock located in the yard? :)

Very cute sign Pixie. None of my plants argue with me either, at least I always win , one way or the other. :)

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Thanks everyone, I love it too.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I've been out of the loop for quite some time, so I missed your post when you created it, Sherrie. I hope you are still a member of DG. It's been a very challenging season for us, too, and we thought we'd give up when the weeds were taller than the daylilies! But, the sun came out one day and Anna and I got sunburned weeding and weeding and weeding. Now, the daylilies are bursting forth in all their glory. Even when it's raining, the daylilies still make me smile.

So, please don't give up, Sherrie. Tomorrow (and next year) is another day.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

this was taken yesterday morning - dew was still heavy and humid out - notice the new harroit waldman jm to the right that is just as bright as the flowers

Another nice shot Bill. Your beds are all so neat. Mine are a bit disheveled this year. Never got mulch down and the weeds are way too over abundant. Considering all the crummy weather I cannot complain on how the garden is bearing up even with my neglect. Notice the poor clems on the arbor. That's the ones the slimy slugs attacked before I found them up 7' munching and sliming everything.

Thumbnail by ngam
Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Looking across the backyard towards the yellow/blue bed. New arbor this year has two honeysuckle growing up it, only about 4' so far but I am looking forward to them covering the whole thing in a couple years, I hope.

ngam i use a special weed free lens with bed edge sharpening turned on :)

i like that second shot!

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Thanks Bill. I think there is a lot more work involved than a special camera, but I could use a setting like that. LOL By the way your BES made me think. Meant to ask also if anyone else's perennial BES are not as full, tall and gorgeous as usual? Mine are blooming but even though they are pretty they are nothing like usual. Must be the weather this year. Just wondering if anyone else was having the same experience.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

mine are huge and blooming like crazy - in fact they have crowded out some regular purple echi's and 6 clumps of cardinal flower - not happy about that - they will get thinned out a lot at the end of the year.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Great pics Bll and Patti.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Nice pics! I luv your sign Pixie ^_^ I just have a few signs in my garden now. I used to put up little tombstones for all the plants I have luved and killed but then it started looking WAY too scary so I stopped doing that. Now I just have little wakes by the compost.

North Augusta, ON

Great shots. I love seeing everybody's gardens. Here is one of my front beds.

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

You guys put my garden to shame.
That's my kind of garden, 3G. Lots of beauties clustered together.
This isn't much of a 'long view', just a corner of the front garden.
