Best/Worse/What did I learn today..visit with friends #116

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just spoke with Jeff...Kyle did amazingly today..they did over 20 kl. - Jeff said the wind was behind them and that made it somewhat easier, said at last you could see it was an effort for Kyle so they got to the lock which was Jeff's today destination..Jeff's cooking supper and he said you can see Kyle sitting there fighting to keep awake...

Tomorrow Jeff will have completed his kayak marathon but is going through the Bay of Quinte and into Lake Ontario Wednesday..I asked if Greg was picking him up Wednesday or Thursday...his reply...'he'd better be on the shore waiting for us when we arrive, I've had my fill of kayak and camping, although enjoyable, I want to be on land!" lol...

Said he's enjoying the company..next year he's taking his 2 boys for a week, that should be fun...

On my recorder was a call from Suzanne saying she was taking her sister Marg (my SIL) out for supper for Marg's 62nd birthday..ooops already in my nightie..don't think I'll make it...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Going to call it a night, still have eaten, might skip supper, won't kill me for sure...

Not panicking about what to pack, lordy I've been travelling enough I just throw things into a bag and voila..done..lol

Busy weekend so an early night will be just what I need..

Best of the day...talking to Jeff about his and Kyle's day..I'm so glad he's a nice 'uncle'..some aren't you know..lol
I often think Roger and I must have done something right..both boys are truly 'nice' boys...I'm bragging but someone has to right?

Worse of the day...seeing Cindy/Paul and Wilena worrying over LeeAnn..do hope the results come in tomorrow and it's all good news...

What did I learn today...received an e-mail from girlfriend Liz saying she's on vacation in Sweden or such and someone stole all her $$$ and wondered if I could forward her $700.

Thank goodness Liz had already called me over the weekend to say someone hacked her computer and has the ability to send e-mails with her e-mail address and doing a con job..
She called me again tonight to say she's back on-line, new e-mail address ...

Talk about people who are able to scam people...dreadful...

Good Lord willing, we'll gab tomorrow

Night/night

Day 13/1 - lucky number 13

Who said 13 is an unlucky number. Had breakfast and packed up both kayaks. By the time we set off the sun was shinning and clear skies for the majority of the day. Perfect.

Only problem was the silicone seal between the cockpit and rear hatch on the "minnow" was well... Not there, any water that got into cockpit was going into rear hatch. Had to shuffle all the stuff around so all my waterproofed gear was back there, Kyle didn't have much time to pack so his stuff would have been drenched, not good. Downside is I've perfected my packing system for myself and know where everything is, or was, now have no clue anymore, we just stuff things wherever they go, paying no attention to which kayak or hatch. Off we go just before 9.

Kyle struggles a bit at first but picks up quickly, not long into the trip I am playing catch up all the time, ok I stop to text message along the way but when I look up he's 200 yards ahead. Funny moment, at one point I'm up ahead and waiting, don't hear his paddle hitting the water and yell back, "I don't hear any paddling going on back there", his reply, "I don't hear any paddling going on up there either", pfft sarcasm? Wonder where he got that from.

I had originaly planned to paddle to percy reach which is just over 7k then see how he is doing, we have to cross a lake (last one) and the next lock is 18+k away and he was tired or conditions bad, we would call it a day there. Made great time and go to percy reach at 11:30, seeing as we had done 3 locks which burned about an hour, we made great time.

Stop for lunch and at about 12:30 we head off down the 18k stretch to glen ross, skies are for the most part clear with a storm cloud off the the right. Wind was nice and behind us all the way, meant we didn't have to paddle hard to make good time. I keep an eye on the storm cloud to be safe.

Waves pick up a bit to about a foot and kyle is having fun riding them, I stopped worrying about him about an hour ago. Normally very talkative, kyle just paddles away and we chat now and again as needed. The lockmaster told us there was a bald eagle flying around somewhere and we spot him soaring above just as we finish the lake, how often do you get to see that. The fish are also jumping and there are lots of birds, cool that kyle gets to see some wildlife.

We have been resting along the way but with just over an hour left we get out and stretch and have a snack. Kyle no longer needs help getting in or out of the "minnow", he's an expert now. We set off and I can feel temp drop quick, he paddles over and I put up umbrella just as rain hits, we don't get wet.

While he never complained once, at this point he starts asking if the lock is just around the next bend, I say yes, opps maybe the next one, 3-4 times of that and he stops asking, I know he's getting tired but is a trooper. We finally see the lock, rain starts again, up with umbrella again, passes in about 15, sun up. We get to the lock at 4:30 and un-pack, won't miss the nowhere to pull kayak out syndrome. Lockmaster helps lift out with me. Thanks bud.

We setup camp then go for ice cream, relax for a bit then cook dinner, I start the stove but he has to cook his own food, gives him something to do. Why didn't I bring ravioli, looked good. We finish up dinner and as I type this he is fishing off the pier. Told him I would clean and cook what he caught, please be trout, please be trout!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Good for Kyle! I bet Jeff's glad to have the company, doing that alone would get kinda lonely.

I'm in my jammies too, waiting for it to get a little darker so I can tell which lights I need to put new batteries in outside. I bought 8 of those solar landscape lights, they're really neat but not quite sure the way they work, hoping the sun charges the batteries, half of them were out last night. I wanted to take a picture but it's raining, so that's out.

I guess I can say night night everyone!

Best of today, got my work done and my desk cleared off today.
Worst, haven't heard a word from Dave all day, in fact my phone hasn't rang all day, no text messages or anything, I'm wondering if my phone's broke.

One of those days....was over 80 at ten this morning....topped out here at 98*...too hot to work outside, too hot to work inside.....Dog and I have done little but sit under the fan today. Next few days they predict may be warmer still.......:(

Sounds like Jeff and Kyle are having a wonderful trip.... I hope you relay to Jeff how very much I have enjoyed reading about his travels.

Hopefully by the time Bill get's home from class tonight it will be cool enough to eat on the patio....think it is a cold steak salad, bread and Iced Tea for supper.

Have a good night everyone.

Crissy, yep… I’m a baseball fan. I even got DH somewhat into it, though my DD is still resistant. I should be watching it now, but I’m babysitting Orion (who does actually somewhat like baseball, even at two) so I’m letting them play games on the tv and I’m following the score online. I'm not sure what to do though, my couch is full and a leather chair when the temp. is in the mid 90's isn't very comfortable. I even pulled out a pillow case to cover where my knees touch and it's still uncomfortable. I hate hot weather.

I was in the express lane at the store quietly fuming. Completely ignoring the sign, the woman ahead of me had slipped into the check-out line pushing a cart piled high with groceries. Imagine my delight when the cashier beckoned the woman to come forward looked into the cart and asked sweetly,'So which six items would you like to buy?

Smith climbs to the top of Mt. Sinai to get close enough to talk to God. Looking up, he asks the Lord... 'God, what does a million years mean to you?'
The Lord replies, 'A minute.'

Smith asks, 'And what does a million dollars mean to you?'

The Lord replies, 'A penny.'

'Smith asks, 'Can I have a penny?'
'The Lord replies, 'In a minute.'

Because they had no reservations at a busy restaurant, my elderly neighbor and his wife were told there would be a 45-minute wait for a table. 'Young man, we're both 90 years old, ' the husband said ..'We may not have 45 minutes..' They were seated immediately.

Trisha, sorry your team didn't win..lol...my BlueJays did though!!!

LeeAnn is in for a few hours this morning to see how it goes, because of the meds for pain she's on she can't drive, if she has to go home then Cindy (sister) will have to drive her..MRI tests came back showing nothing and yet she can't walk because of the extreme pain in her abdomen..waiting for the next tests to be scheduled.

Suzanne just said Paul called and asked her what is on everyone's schedule for Friday..asked if she thought everyone would mind taking Friday off as a holiday day as to give them a 4 day holiday...I'm already booked off so won't affect me...sure hope he remembers he's giving me 2 paychecks Thurs. one for this week and one for next..lol...

Tubby, what a terrific thing for the teller to tell the lady with the over 6 items in her basket..wish more would do so..so annoying...

Day 13 continued

Pressed send too early.

Hats off to kyle, he did over 25k today and that is amazing, longest day he has, we do about 16 tomorrow.

Only 22k to end of trenton then the last stretch across bay of quinte, down murray canal and into lake ontario on day 15 to make this official, at which point I'm going to go home have a shower, shave , sleep in a bed for a change, turn on tv and watch 2 1/2 men then put on my motocross gear and hit the track to burn some fuel and make some noise.

Here I thought my worrying was over, nope..now I worry that he doesn't have another accident racing...kids...

Crissy, can you d-mail me your telephone number (hm) (cel) just incase I have to contact you while on this trip...

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Good Morning! I'm getting excited about Betty and Debbie coming too, can't wait for this week to be over.

I have the pictures to show you what we did Sunday. The rain knocked all of my zennia's and cosmos over.

Here's the finished product. The panoramic picture didn't connect evenly but you can get the idea. You can see where I'm missing a Mexican Petunia also.

Beautiful home Crissy..storms certainly played havoc with the gardens...

Liz, all going according to hoyle we can possibly meet up for part of a day..excited I am as well..so enjoyed Judy and your company last year..had a great vacation..am sure this one will be much the same...

Ohhh war zone going on here in the office..not nice when you are all related...guess I'm taking Friday off, Jim in Toronto office taking Friday off and someone else asked for Friday off so Paul is in a nasty mood (not because of my pre-booked vacation) so he told everyone they will take Friday as one of their holiday days - that's not going over well because others want to keep that day to complete weeks that they want to take...

I'll just stay quiet...lol

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I would too Betty. Well Ms. Cheerful is back and doing less than what she was doing before she went on vacation. She was driving me nuts yesterday, trying to work and she comes over to my desk wanting to complain about the President. How about "I don't care!" Now she's just talking and talking like no one has anything to do. My Goodness!

Lyndonville, NY

Good morning,

I am running behind on the computer. I had five boys here last night, three still here right now. Sixteen pieces of french toast....gone. One gallon of milk...with nestles quick to mix....gone. Right now they are in video game trance.

Right now it is hot...very hot...and going to get hotter today. No rain predicted as yet. I actually might sneak to suit on and go over to the pool. Our neighbor has one and gave us, and our kids, free rein to use it. I usually only go in the dark! LOL Right now....I have other issues I really shouldn't be in the pool.....I look like an oooompa - loompa. I let Betty know last night....I tried a self tanner...and I am orange! ROFLMBO

Starting to do some laundry also for the trip...and told DH I wasn't packing much clothes...Betty and I were going shopping. Wish you could have seen his face! LOL He just said "If thats what you two want to do dear, thats fine." I just told him how gulable he was. LOL

Judy, I can't believe I get to meet Skittles (and you and Liz also of course). LOL
I am so excited....and a bit nervous. Thelma and Louise on the road! ROFL

Well, need some coffee or something. Lots to do before departure day......

Be back in a bit
Debbie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Debbie, you just blabbed..wasn't going to tell them I'll be travelling with an orance lady..lol

Thank goodness for all of these little summer outfits I bought in Florida a few years ago..mix/match, same style but so comfy and what's best, throw them in a suitcase, take them out and wear, no wrinkles...

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, that is what I have been trying to find here....and they have all winter clothes out. I am so mad! Went all over Buffalo yesterday and found nothing.

The boys are over at the pool....loud but having a great time. I had a good laugh with them watching "little kids" shows and singing along. My house sounds like a Disney show when they all get together. Mind you they are all 16 years old! LOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

Tubby this ones for you...

Brian invited his mother over for diner. During the course of the meal, Brian's mother couldn't help but notice how beautiful Brian's 'roommate" Jennifer was.

Brian's mom had long been suspicious of a relationship between Brian and Jenniver, and this had only made her more curious.

Over the course of the evening, while watching the two intereact, she started to wonder if there was more between Brian and Jennifer than meets the eye.

Reading his mom's thoughts, Brian volunteered, "I know what you must be thinking, but I assur eyou Jennifer and I are just roomates."

About a week later, Jennifer came to Brian saying, "ever since your mother came to dinner, I've been unable to find the beautiful silver gravy laddle. You don't suppose she took it do you?"

Brian said, "well, I doubt it, but I'll send her an email just to be sure..."
so he wrote:

Dear Mom,
I'm not sying that you 'did' take the gravy ladle from the house, I'm not saying you 'did not' take the gravy ladle. But the fact remains that it has been missing ever since you were here for dinner.
Love Brian

Several days later, Brian received an e-mail back from his mother that read:

Dear Son,
I'm not saying that you 'do' sleep with Jennifer, I'm not saying that you 'do not' sleep with jennifer. But the fact remains that if Jennifer is sleeping in her own bed, she would have found the gravy ladle by now.

Love Mom

Victoria Harbour, ON

Debbie, just bring an iron with you...I just love purchasing clothing at BonWorth..I've several outfits, if they could only fit, that I purchased omg about 25 years go, classic outfits that never seem out of style for the summer...you can wash/wear ..maybe we'll find somewhere that has one..hmmm.... did I leave time to stop and look..am sure I did..will have to drive just a tad over the spead limit to make a 1/2 hr. to play..lol

Lyndonville, NY

Never heard of BonWorth....I remember a Beals down south I loved. Just hope they carry the higher sizes wherever we go. LOL Come to think of it....I am sure we could hit a fabric store and you could just bring the sewing machine and whip me up an outfit or two in our spare time! ROFLMBO

Glenview, IL

Good Morning!
Wow, what a pretty day...

Betty, woohoo...Knowing that you and Debbie will be here on Thursday, no way we will plan anything except pace the floor watching for your sunburst! lolol...I think this time tho, I want to have a bbq.
OHoh, on the friday off issue, whew so glad you had your previously planned!

Liz, OMG, so much to do...don't forget to pack lizlemmons! ROFLOL...I am glad to hear Kenny is excited about the trip! Steve, will be "overwhelemed" around Thursday! Then all *(*(&^^$ will hit as he get to his "list" lol I ought to invite people more often so the list can get worked on!...Being at the house an extra day has thrown me off a wee bit. Well, Thanks to Julia, my house is in order, lol better than last year. All I need to do is: whatelse, laundry and some dusting...Major big deal...get jacob to clean his room!
Yoo funny about Asta, swimming in the pond, twice, hehehe, funnier your guy thinking he is a poodle, hahahha.
So glad things went well with dst. mgr, whew.

Oh so glad for you, Tubby that your feeling stronger!

So we took off on Friday right after football camp, got to Cottage fairly early so we walked around to see what Steve and his buddy did.
Wow, i now have a wonderful flagstone stairway down the trecherous hill! woohoo, Plus they cleaned and organized the "work stuff" instead of all over the house it is in 2 designated areas! And the little deck now has a railing, Steve built it as removable so when we load the house with firewood we still have an open access to door, how ingenious! Then he hired someone to come and clean the entire house so we didn't have to do it!! how cool is that!!...So Saturday, while Steve and kids worked on Lawn and pruned up some trees, raked the lake and other outside stuffs, I worked on the getting things better organized and finally hung some things on the walls. Fixed the little dresser, it was falling apart, and filled it with "junk" re toys, and little items we use but don't need to be out...Then early evening our Cousin Joyce came with a friend, We had a nice big bonfire which Breenie and Jake prepared! Sunday had a nice breakfast and went for a lovely boat ride. The weather was gorgious with this exception of a few isolated T-storms! Sat, we had one roll through and right around sunset we were awed not only with a stunning sunset but opposite a Double rainbow!! Wow, We have never seen a double, it was just incredible. Then on Sunday, we played around went for a boatride and yikes got stuck at the marina, where we had dinner another T-storm rolled through, so we had no choice but to stick around, finally it passed and Another Double Rainbow!! We were just delighted to see such a view...Then Yesterday, We did a few more things around the house. Steve and i finally hung the Screen door, lol we've only had it for a year! LOL, according to Steve it would only take about half hour, yeah right. One, Jake and I recovered the seats on those chairs we got at garage sale. Wow, what a chore, but fun and they look real nice and are comfy. All pieces are recycable.
Then while we packed another incredible storm hit, so so glad we waited til it passed, winds were so strong it knocked out metal table over...OMG, reminds me, Sat. the wind was so strong, it picked up the umbrella straight up and over the house! Landed in the road, thankfully, no one was travelling just then, fortunately it only got one bracket broke, Which Steve can fix and the very top piece snapped off (fixable) too.

Now for Skittles...LOL, we packed her up in a box for the ride...oh poor baby didn't like that one bit, kept "crying" for the first half hour...
We stopped at Walmart in Portage and while Steve and Jake went in Breenie and I let her loose in the car. She loved that and we hated to tease but had another hour to go..Back in the box, then when we got to cottage We put her in the small cage, yikes poor thing kept trying to escape...We had to be extremely careful with everyone in and out all weekend, She kept getting anxious to get out, so in and out of the cage she was...By yesterday OMG, I was overwhelmed with worry, all the sudden she was Sooo lathargic, had to hand feed her, and she drank from water droplets on our fingers...She had Breenie and I so scared something was wrong, not, thankfully she was exhausted! We placed her in a different box and rigged so she could see us and the ride home she slept! Oh was she happy to be in her cage, played all night..by 10 she was tired again.

Well I got to get to some laundry!! and my goal today is work in the yard a bit.
see you later, hope you are having a great day so far, charging Batteries so i can load a few pics.
Armwraps to all.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone. Doc. re-scheduled again for this afternoon. Maybe someday I can get these stitches out!
Looks like you are going to have a fun filled week-end! make sure you pack your camera, and extra bartteries!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Can't believe Judy all the work that Steve manages to accomplish + work as well...

Poor Skittles, how terrifying..did you always bring your birdie with you to the cottage or because of being older it wasn't necessary...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Crissy, don't like the sounds of your Arrrgggggg

OMG Linda Kay, leaving stitches in that long, won't it mean that the healing might have covered some of them and be 10 times more difficult to take out? are you doing your daily therapy routine...feeling better? how's hubby..it will soon be his turn right to have knee done..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I hope they come out easy/ We will find out this afternoon.
Hubby is doing Ok, and yes his turn is coming for his knee.
Geesh, no one told me that getting old sucked! LOL

Lyndonville, NY

LindaKay they did that to me also...had to have steri-strips on them for a few weeks after. I hope it goes well. The actual stitch removal was not painful at all even though they left in too long.

I am giving in...going to put shorts on my oooompa loooompa legs.

Victoria Harbour, ON

LindaKay, not the golden years for sure..if it isn't one thing it's another...but beats the alternative now doesn't it?

Now that the girls all have 4 days off starting Thursday night, I look at the weather and it's rain/rain/rain/rain - all 4 days...they'll not be happy..think I should go look up what the weather will be for us next week..

Hope no one is doing a rain dance..cut it out!!!! Is there a sunshine dance....

Glenview, IL

OMG, Crissy, you ok?? maybe just aggrevated a bit with Mrs happy? Well, I tell you try not to let her get to ya. I had a woman at work frustrate me so much, I almost quit a couple of times...Then one day it dawned on me she was taking her frustration out on me, why never could figure out, but I decided to just not play her game anymore, only said hi and bye and give instruction on whatever project...then let her make a fool of herself all by herself, lol...believe it or not, in the end we were both actually friendly to eachother, wow that was just a amazing.

Well Hi Linda Kay, glad you will finally get the stitches out...So, have you been keeping it elevated and iced up?
..glad DH is doing well too...

Betty, We only took Feathers with us for extended stays, more then 3days. This time We took Skittles because originally Julia was going to meet us after work, but she decided to stay home because of the game...We have to remember she is really just a baby and tires easily, lol but she tries to be energizing bunny and keeps going till she can't!

Debbie, Yep very excited here too, Too cute, your teasing dh about all the shopping...When our cousin met her, she was amazed at how friendly and smart she is...Still amazed myself at how quickly she is learning.

OK, back at it.

Betty, What you working on today? Something fun?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Should be, but not, how many games of solitaire can you play in one day...I'll soon know...all I have to do...

At work did you ever have the salesmen who brings in toys/books/misc. articles, they leave it in hopes they get orders..he's picking it up on Tuesday or Wednesday..

Well I'm going to pretend I didn't quite understand how it worked and going to leave $$$ here and take the article he left...need it/want it..lol

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I'm fine lol! You got it Judy!

Hey, do you all know Boomour (however it's spelled) on King of the Hill??????

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)
