Today I have Split Kniola's Black .

One could pass out from seeing such beauty on a plant, Dany, good growing!

Ronnie - I remember that odd volunteer that I got and Ron did think it was a sport of JC. I don't know where that photo is or if I even kept it. But that is interesting information about the star points getting thinner or fanning out to help determine sports of I. purpurea vines.

Dany - Nice feathered Kniola's Black. Is that bloom a mutant on a vine of full petal blooms or that a new cultivar?

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Dany I love the Split Kniola's Black one of my favorites!!

Debra, how do you feel about the pink one? For some reason it is my least favorite of the purpureas. I can't put my finger on it though. I am usually a pink fan...there is just something about that color...of course no offense to your lovely picture!! ☺

Anyone else have one they just don't like?

Ronnie, gorgeous blooms in your double post
above.
Dany, didn't realize that such a bloom existed, split Kniola's Black,
very pretty.
Debra, Love your purpurea's.

Ronnie, really I perfer Blue, but last year that was a pretty strong colour around my yard so I had planted the pink ones on the fence northeast side, they ended up throwing pods and seeds everywhere, I am still waiting for the giant blue blooms and the giant red ones that had blooms that were palm size to show up from volunteers since I gave those particular pods to so many I am hoping to see some pop up here, as I don't have any.. I hope those particular ones weren't I. Nils last year.. .. so far volunteer ones are the purple, and the pink.. I love the blue and red and purple mixed colours the best for I. Purpurea..

Debra - Pretty blooms you captured today! They really stand out against those big huge green leaves that are now completely covering your fence.

gardenpom - Nice to see you posting and sharing some more awesome photos! I love the transparency of shot #2! You have such a great eye for the unusual perspective!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Thanks Becky, but those are from last year up there in that picture.. I was just wishing I had some of those big blue ones this year ..

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

LOL! I would NOT have ever known if you hadn't told me! Your fence seems almost covered and your garden full of all kinds of lovelies this year, too! :-)

Here's a beauty that volunteered from last year's plant...don't remember what it is but I like it!

Ronnie, I know wacha mean about pink...riles me, too. Except when it barely blushes ivory or chases itself over ivory in streaks from very dark to barely there. And I liked the pretty pink Milky Way and the ruby Rebecca.

Dany, about that split Kniola's Black - you always inspire me to rethink the crosses I'm planning if my MGs ever decide to bloom this year (they're definitely heading indoors before frost - got my anti-cat shower curtain all lined up - our future Christmas *tree* gets smaller and smaller all the time - lol). I'm not growing out Kniola's Black this year, but I do have a seedling coming along of Gourds that she said was the darkest I. purpurea she had ever seen, or words to that effect. Wonder how a cross between it and that emargined gray with the dusky gene that Joseph likes so much would be? Probably it would be very unlikely to happen since purpureas and nils are not supposed to hybridize, but that gray just seems to be a youjiro in disguise...we shall see.

Debra, love the night prowls among the fleurs in your garden

GardenPom, just when I think what a purpurea looks like, you make me rethink what I'm seeing.

Karen, your Rebecca Plant went from this :

To this... on a collision course with Josephs SOH..this plant has bluish burgandy blooms, as well as almost solid blooms on the same vine... I have been watching that vine..

Debra, that is so strange but fascinating - Rebecca did the same thing here after self-sowing over its first winter. You are going to have so much fun seeing how your seeds perform in others' gardens, too. Thanks for sharing these pics.

They sure do. These are growing on MY fence, but most of the flowers are facing the neighbors. I like backside shots though.
