Wasps living in my windchimes

(Chris) Des Moines, IA(Zone 5a)

I'm not even sure where to post this :) I was outside and happened to see a wasp fly OUT of one of the metal chimes on my windchime! I'm going to be taking the chimes down because of my moving out of state, so how the devil do I get these guys out of there without getting stung??? To make it even more interesting, these chimes are high enough that when I DO take them down, I'll have to be on a ladder..not good!

Help! :)

you can get a can of the wasp killer that shoots a stream of the liquid pretty far. Just look specifically for wasp killer in the pesticide section at the grocery store.

Ooooh I don't envy you this job! I would suggest spraying early or late in the day when the wasps are quieter.

Another suggestion...get someone else to do it!

I've got one of those cans already, but I'll have to stand basically under the chime and shoot straight up to get inside the cylinders..so was hoping to not have to do that :)

Julie, I really like your suggestion better lol! Maybe the neighbor can be talked into it..I'll have to check that idea out :)

My thanks to both of you

Do it at night or in the evening. They will all be in for the night then.

I have had to do it a number of times, but never in a place like that. Hmmmm, maybe I better take a look at my chimes.

We had some biuld inside the roof of a dog coop that wasn't being used at the time, luckly. My kitten found them and got her nose stung :(
And we have had them build in a small coop that was for chickens, but wasn't being used at the time either. And they have built just above the patio door too.

And right now my BF has then again. They build between the wood and the brick on his house near the roof.

When I have sprayed their nests in the evening when they have all gone in for the night, ours always started dropping out as soon as they where hit by the poison. And they didn't fly anywhere.
Good Luck ^_^

Maybe wear goggles....
I got a drop of spectracide in my eye one time by spraying overhead. Had to rinse my eye for 10 minutes. No lasting effects, but it sure burned!

I am sensitive to bee/ wasp stings. Not to the point of an epi-pen, but a single sting will create a sore that lasts a couple of months. All kidding aside, I would definitely get help!

One more thing...If they are dirt daubers, they aren't as agressive.
