Hey!
I've searched the internet for information about how old the
pioneer Cecropia trees get. I've read everything from about 10-70 years.
Would love to get some more accurate info though.
Thanks! :)
How old does Cecropia trees get?
Hows'it Hobbyist.
Cecropia obtusifolia shows up in disturbed native rainforest here. In a decade it becomes large and starts to fall apart, as well as spread to new locations by fruit eating birds.
It is a short lived, fast growing, pioneer, tropical tree.
Hey Metrosideros.
So about 10 years?
The reason i ask, is because i work at a tropical zoo and we have theese trees.
So to make sure we have new trees ready when the old ones die, i had to know how old they'd get.
The old trees won't be dead in ten years, but they will be large gnarly and dangerous to stand underneath. In a windstorm, large limbs will break and fall down.
In Denmark, I guess you are growing them in doors. They will probably have a different life cycle. What is your ceiling height?
Cecropia are supposed to get 10 meters tall; here in the Nanawale Forest Reserve they get almost twice that large and out-compete the native trees.
I think that when the older trees start to get leggy and begin to break, it is good to replace them.
Aloha, Dave
