I have been mulling this over for about a week now, and can't come up with the appropriate plants. Any suggestions for this would be welcome. I'm in zone 4.
Next spring, I want to plant a huge flowerbed of the US flag. I have it planned to look just like it, stars, stripes and all.
My problem is finding red, white and blue flowers that are somewhat the same height, bloom at the same time and for most of the summer. Any suggestions?
I have a slope in my yard, so you will be able to tell it's a flag without having to climb a tree to see the flag. I'm working on lasagna bedding the area now so it will be ready in the spring.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Any extra seeds you may have for sase that will work for this bed would also be appreciated, but please keep in mind that isn't my reason for posting this.

Need seed suggestions
How bout petunias? They bloom all season, you can get them in the 3 colors, and if you stick with - say... the "Fantasy" series or somthing similar - they'd all be the same height.
That would be my choice too. Good color selection, ease of care, and long bloom time. And if you keep it simple, then your message will be easier to see at a glance.
Thank you! I can buy petunias as plants in the spring too, so I would have quicker flowers. I knew someone would come up with great suggestions.

How about Impatiens and Ageratums for the blue? I like the neatness of Impatiens and compact mounding. Just an idea...
Since you won't have to climb a tree to see the garden, another group of plants to consider is bedding salvias. They come in white, red and a deep blue.
Whatever you decide, I hope you post pics!!!!!
You might consider waxed begonias. They come in red and white and would make nice stripes! Sounds like you have a great plan in mind. Good luck with it.
