What can I do to keep birds from sitting in my blackberries, I'm sure they are helping themselves to them. I didn't know if rubber snakes or maybe tin pie pans would work or not.
Birds in my blackberries
Sherlyn,
We have used deer netting to keep unwanted predators off fruit. Deer netting is black plastic net, very light weight, that has about 1/2" openings. If you think the openings will still allow the birds to peck, just drape two thicknesses over your blackberries.
A word of warning--if you don't anchor the netting well, you will have birds flying off, trailing your netting behind them. Not good for you, not good for the birds.
Putting a clothesline above your blackberry canes and hanging fluttering flags of cloth (makes your blackberry patch look like a used car lot!) may help. Less danger for birds and colorful for you!
