Cutting back minature gourd vines will it hurt them?

I thought I had a wonderful zuccini growing in my small garden. It turns out that this minature gourd volunteer has slid in to that location. LOL I put in a fence post and started tying it up and up and up! It still is putting out more lower runners. Can I just prune these lower vines off or would it kill my surprize minature gourds?
