The fern tree has been burning despite the best efforts, but it has grown tall. I stand under the fronds when I step off the deck next to it.

It's ornamental. I have 6 or 7 different ones, no room...I was surprised they are even blooming as I haven't up sized the pots this year.

Different use for a hanging basket...can you tell I've been deprived..lol

we have on our buffett look like it and it is over 35 years old we figured out.. we call it BIG BOY.. so it is called Xanadu then?

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Really?!
Yes, I think I recall that it was Xanadu...I posted a bunch of stuff for Dave in Hawaii to identify and I'm pretty sure that was the name that came out

Cape Coral, FL(Zone 10a)

Peacock orchid & crocosimia. Not a very good picture.

for Xanadu

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Honestly...I've no idea about that Xanadu...every plant looks different to me. I've been to 2 sites plus the PF here, check it out..not 2 of them look the same

It looks more like a Philodendron pinnatifidum or palmleaf philodendron.

RJ, just wait for all those chocolate plants to start blooming the greatest lavender-purple with the almost brown leaves! A show you will have!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Yeah, they need to be more sun tanned...LOL...I have them all over the place!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

And I have brown weeds everywhere outside ^_^

Buffalo, NY

Wish rain to all those that haven't gotten it yet. Finally warming up, up here for a little while. Garden's behind as is the tomato's. Planted some potato's and their doing okay so far. My iochroma's coming into bloom. My brug's are lagging but starting to show. My garden's are doing okay. Didn't plant much this year and I'm relying on what I have to perk it up. Mom had a stroke on the 12th so I'm running back and forth between hospital and home. Passion flower is blooming. the Alocasia's are a tad slow to grow this year due to the cooler weather. My colocasia's though are doing well. When I get some pictures, I will post. Probably next month when I can pay my DG's bill :)

My yard is a mass of tangled messed up wet plants all askew and torn, thanks to the storm and the mini tornado that just blew in my yard... * whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa* *sigh* oh well ...here is a hib I got to see bloom this am before the storm messed everything up.. ( sitting here all wet and sad and helpless since no one cares to go out and help me take inventory of the damages)

I can't remember the name. it's fast growing.

What a cool flower on that Grevillea pteridifolia - I need to look for one of those.

noonamah, Australia

rjuddharrison, I think that's one of the amaranths.

The Grevillea pteridifolia, Fern-leaf Grevillea, is a fast growing small tree. I think they've produced some cultivars now.

Cape Coral, FL(Zone 10a)

Grevillea pteridifolia is gorgeous!!!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

ah! found it
Chenille Plant, Red-Hot Cattail
Acalypha hispida

I'm partial to that Cochlospermum fraseri! how big are the flowers?

That Grevillea pteridifolia is said to grow easily from seed. This is a hint. ^_^

noonamah, Australia

The Cochlospermum fraseri flowers are 90mm across. (I just went out in the dark and measured one.)

noonamah, Australia

There's an entry for Grevillea pteridifolia on plantfiles:
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/74381/

It says "May be a noxious weed or invasive"

I've hundreds of them on my place, but they're a native. Grow in seasonally poorly drained areas and swamps. It's one of the biggest Grevilleas, a small tree. Most grevilleas only get to shrub or large shrub size.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)
