I recently purchased a Cogshall mango to add to my potted tropical fruit collection. I purchased it in Tampa Florida and brought it pack bare root. I repotted it at the same level it was in the nursery pot. I ammended the soil with perlite to make it drain faster. The tree itself had a flush of new growth when I bought it and I noticed that the new stems are beginning to pucker like they are not getting enough water. I only water when the soil is dry, and then I soak it. I read that mango trees are extremely sensitive to fertilizer so I added a small amount of slow release fertilizer to the soil surface. I live in western New York, and this summer has been unseasonally cold. The night time temps have dipped into the low fifties. I am wondering if this might be part of the problem. I did some research on Farichilds website and so far from what I understand this should not be an issue. The day time temps have rarely got into the eighties. I made some willow water yesterday, and am planning to use this the next time to water to help with root growth. I really want this tree to make it, I did not expect to have problems with it during the summer, and considering that it is a dwarf tree, it should not be hard to maintain. I am planning on buying 1000 watt metal halides to keep it happy during the summer. Any help and suggestions would be really appreciated. I am not a member as of yet so please respond in this forum.
