some of my green beans have these "ink looking" striations on them, like a blueish-black color. i've been battling slugs off the plants this year, with our never-ending rains...
would slugs climbing the plants, "INK" them, like a squid? has anyone seen this before, or know what could be causing it?
would it be safe to eat?
inky striations on green beans?
I can't see anything in the photo to worry about. I'd eat those jokers.
I've seen those on my beans, too. No idea what causes it. It looks like they've rubbed up against something. Not all of my beans have it, though.

Concur, lots of green bean cultivars will show some signs of striping at some point in their development.
We always eat ours like that with no ill effects. Enjoy.
Some beans have purple pods, I suspect your beans have "purple-pod-ancestors" - they are okay to eat :)
I grow "turtle beans" (black beans) - they start out green, turn green/purple, then the pods dry into a light tan color at which time we cut, shuck, and store the little black beans for winter soup/stew/chili.
Aaaah, I think you're right. Even though the lines are feint and seem more dark gray, I can see what you're getting at. I'm growing Triomphe de farcy, from Burpee Heirlooms.
French green beans from as early as the 1890s.
I never even thought about it. And they have these lovely purple flowers. What are you growing, fodder?
If you are new on Dave's remember this, You can all ways listen to farmerdill. He is one sharp dude.
Thanks for your replies, all...
ya, i've been reading enough on these forums to know that farmer dill is the gospel around here. you can only hope for an answer from him!
so, i've eaten a bunch, with no ill effects...
as far as what i've planted, sheeeesh. i planted a bunch of different kinds of greenbeans this year. the ones i THINK that are showing what could be called "purpleish"...are the tendergreens? not sure. figures i threw that packet away, but it was probably burpee. i got tenderpods, tendergreens, kitchen kings, bluelakes, those french heirlooms "triomphe de farcy", etc, etc... my labeling went wrong at some point, tho...lol. most of my seeds were burpee, tho...so, chances are.
Anyway, thanks again to all the folks in these forums. i read a lot here, tho i dont post all that much. you're a real informative bunch, and i know i'm not the only one that appreciates all your help. Thanks again. :-)
