Where can I learn more about harvestig seeds?

West Midlands UK, United Kingdom

Ckick on this site http://theseedsite.co.uk/harvesting.html lots of information on the subject there ....

I have collected seeds for years and started my own plants from them.

First, make sure the seed head it ripe. When it is, the stem that holds it will turn brown and deadish. Plants don't waste their energy supplying nutrients to seed stems since it is no longer needed.

When ripe, I use a scissor to snitp the seed head off. I spread the seed in a pan lined with kitchen paper towels to dry. Sir the seeds every so often so all sides of the seeds will dry.

Dry the seeds for 2 to 3 weeks, depending on the variety, to cure. When dry, seperate the seeds from its cover. I use a seive to strain dead plant parts. Then store my seeds when dry in plastic salad containers that you get from the store when you buy salads. Cover the container and label the name and year. I store the container in my fridge. You can store the seeds anywhere where it is room temp, and out of light. A closet works.
