Okay...am I the only one having that 'Burn Light Electric Co' banner dropping down on my screen every 30 seconds or so???

What is that?

I think I read somewhere that if you are subscriber you don't get the ads. Is that true? I am not a subscriber, so I don't know for sure.

I'm not a subscriber either...so that could possibly be it. It just started today though!

I've become obsessed with trying to click on a thread before the dang thing drops down!

Even if you're not a subscriber and have to view ads, I know Dave doesn't typically allow the annoying popup ads. I would use the "contact us" link at the bottom of any page and send a message to the help desk letting them know about it. If you could get a screen shot of it and include that with your message that would help them track down where it's coming from.

yeah.. you still get it if your a subscriber .. annoying! But I guess they have to pay the bills somehow ^_^

Do you have your ads turned off? I think if you've got ads off then you won't see them (I have the ads turn off and I have never had a problem with the popups any of the times that they've cropped up around here). I know in the past when annoying popup ones have showed up, Dave has gotten rid of them once he figures out where they're coming from.

i was advised to just turn them off by going to "my info" the clicking on "ads" at the list on the right.

I tried that, it didn't work....I unchecked the boxes, is that how you turn the adds off?

I don't know if the setup is any different if you don't subscribe. In the Dave's Garden forum there is info. Thanks to GardenGuyKin for showing the way. I was ready to quit, that barn light ad was so annoying.

I kept my ads turned on for as long as I could. I know it costs money to run the site, and advertisers might ask him for a count of how many people are viewing ads. But that one - the one that drops down even if you don't mouse over it - was the breaking point. They're turned off now on my account.

I think it's fixed (at least for now)--there were a couple other threads about this and on one of the other ones I saw that it was taken care of. If you're still seeing it I'd definitely send in a report.

The marketing guy who thought that would be a good idea needs to be poked in the eyeballs repeatedly. I bet nobody likes him.

iluvcatz--it the Sluggo ad a regular ad or a popup one? If it's a regular one there's nothing you can do about it unless you're a subscriber and then you can turn ads off entirely, but if it's another annoying popup one you could use the "contact us" link and let admins know about it.
