CLOSED: Free Seed For Newbies! 7/10/o9 - Directions To Get Your Seed

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

OK, In Robins absence, I have taken the liberty of starting a new thread, so as to end the confusion of where we are all supposed to be...LOL.

Here are the directions for obtaining your free newbie pack!

*** ATTENTION ALL NEWBIES SEEKING SEED! YOU ARE TO SEND ALL INQUIRIES AND ENVY'S TO AREJAY59!!! SHE IS LISTED IN THE ADDRESS EXCHANGE!!!***

To get your free seeds

Be Sure to put your dmail name and a note of wants in your envie, along with return name and address
Address exchange is here http://davesgarden.com/address_exchange/
You have to add your information to be able to access everyone else's

We came from here
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1007596/

Please feel free to Dmail arejay59 with questions
Many of us "oldies" and some Newbies would like to share our seeds with those of you new to Dave's. By new, we mean you joined in the last 8 months(or so) and are a paying member.
Send me a SASBE (Self addressed, stamped bubble envelope) and we'll send you 10 packets of seeds. (Usually more, depends on our stash) That's all there is to it. Let us know you are sending your envy. Just Dmail me with sent envie today in the subject. You will get a good variety of good seeds.

If you can, stick a note in your envy and tell me they types of things you like. Veggies and Flowers, some seeds you are looking for, stuff like that. It will help me fill your envy. I can't always get just what you ask for, but will try.

**DO NOT DMAIL CUE_CHIK OR SEND YOUR ENVY TO HER... YOU ARE TO DMAIL AND SEND ENVY'S TO AREJAY59!!!***

Postage keeps going up so now we need five usually,

Send 5 stamps and an address label with your name on it.
4 of the stamps will go back on your return envy, the extra will go into the "pot" I don't use it for personal use, but it helps when some mail comes with postage due and when the "oldies" send boxes of seeds sometimes there is postage due.
Best thing to do is just send me an empty bubble envy with your label and stamps inside. I can use that same envy to send your seeds back. Saves that envy!!
Also, if you will scotch tape the envy to send to me, I can use the self adhesive and won't destroy your envy pulling them open when I get them.
Please make sure you put enough stamps on your envelope you send to me. An empty bubble envy is at least 84 cents, so two stamps. If you are sending seeds, it's more of course.

PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR D MAIL NAME WITH YOUR ENVY.

arejay59 is in the address exchange, so you know where to send the envy. If you can't find it, just d mail arejay59 and I'll shoot it right to you. At the top of your home page, you'll see the link "EXTRA'S" ,Go into that link, scroll down and you'll see the address exchange this goes to the exchange http://davesgarden.com/address_exchange/ you have to add yourself to the exchange then you can get my address.

Oldies! lol If you would like to donate seeds, it would be great.!! I know how much I loved it when I was new and someone sent me seeds to get me started. Now I want to pay it forward and maybe you would too.

For those of you who would like to help the newbies, but just don't have a lot of seed, if you would like to trade for seeds, that is great as well. Send seeds for the newbies and I will send you the same amount back. Put a note in with your DG name and let me know what you are looking for also.
Happy Gardening Everyone,
Robin

Hope no one minds that I started a new thread, but seems we were all scattered to the winds, so I thought I would give us all a new place to go :)

Boise, ID(Zone 6a)

I received my seeds a couple of days ago and have had so much fun looking each one up and planning where they will be best to plant. Thanks everyone for donating seeds and time to provide such fun for us newbies. I'm looking forward to being able to contribute soon.

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

Glad you got your packet ok. I'm sure everyone will look forward to seeing your garden as it grows, it's so very exciting! Aren't these DGer's a great bunch of peeps?

Thanks for starting the thread Cue! Very helpful. How's your Goth garden growing?

Sherri

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

it hasnt as of yet been planted... there are some veggies finishing up in the spot where it is going to reside and a few 'non-goth' plants that need to be uprooted and moved, but the seeds Ive started are doing good, for the most part. Lost a few, but most are doing well. Still haven't found a Goth trellis suitable yet, but I suppose that can always be added to the backdrop later on. If I could figure out how to make one myself very cheap, I would. But, still collecting any sort of 'black' flower and foliage plants to add. Should be quite interesting once i get everything into place and it starts growing!

I have a black coral pea 'Kennedia nigricans' on the way from CA that I plan to share with you if it makes the trip and you want it. It's an Aussie plant that is kinda rare here. Needs something to climb. Fence, Trellis, Whatever LOL

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Mornin' everyone. Thanks for the new thread, cue!

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

wow, thats kinda cool looking!

Morning Loca!

Cue: The pea vine came in the mail. Looks good Kinda small. I'm going to give him some GA TLC for a while and then ship him to ya. That'll give you some time to figure out where to put him. Don't know what a Goth trellis looks like but Savannah is (I'm sure) harboring many. Old wrought iron kinda things? After all this is the "Garden of Good and Evil". LOL

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

thast exactly what a Goth trellis is.. old, wrought iron kinda trellis.

Cocoa Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

Thanks for the new thread!

For a Gothic trellis try the junk shops and thrift stores. Try to keep in mind you can add embellishements and use black Rustoleum spray paint to make any metal look great. We have a few Real Deal stores where I can pick up inexpensive spray paint. Just painted all my garden accessories TURQUOISE blue. They really pop! Gotta take some pictures.

Washington, IN(Zone 6a)

I'm here, and thank you very much cue for starting a new thread . We needed one real bad
cue, did you ever get any of the black bat flower seeds? I have some black scabiosa and poppy seeds coming that I will share with you if you want them. I am still trying to get the bat flower seeds myself.

Hi all Hope you all have a great week-end.

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

nope, I never got any Bat flower seeds. Will eventually tho.. theya re a 'must have' you would think, for a Goth Garden...lol.

and you know me, I'd never turn down any 'black' flower seeds.. hee hee

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Hey there my dark friend . . .

Got any alleys in your neck of the woods? You need to find you an old metal headboard or something of that nature. They make a great trellis - painted black - oh yeah baby! Or a really rusty something or other.

Washington, IN(Zone 6a)

Well if I can get the ones I have got in saved I will even share those with you . I think I can get them fairly cheap but they will come all the way from England.

Talking about Gothic trellises. what you could do is get a few of the Shepards Hooks and scrape them down abd then place them together and have a trellis in that way.

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

Ive got 2 small (about 2 1/2 ft - 3 ft tall) rectangular wrought iron trellises, but I need a taller, arch shaped on to go in the middle o the two. I saw a perfect one in a local nursery, however, they were quite proud of because they were asking $89.99 for it.. yeah... did I mention I'm a poor vampire? LOL heck.. $10 might as well be $10,000 to me at this point...ROTFL but never fear, where there is a will, there is a way!

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

What about craigslist or freecycle?

Amazing what you can find there sometimes for free . . .

The perfect trellis WILL find you when the time is right!

$89.99? Yikes!

Hornell, NY(Zone 5a)

Have you found any "black" tomatoes out there yet Cue? I know there are a few around, but I'm not sure if they taste good or even if you like tomatoes. Would probably make an awful looking spagetti sauce if you're really into weird stuff (sorry, I didn't mean that).

Since I grow most of my tomatoes from seed I'd look for one to plant next year for you, it's sort of late right now to start.

Al

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

You know, cue, Al is on to something there - lol. The black or purple tomatoes are actually pretty tasty. Kinda smokey flavored - an acquired taste but really good.

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

as a matter of fact I do have some black mater seeds. I am going to attempt ( I stress the word 'attempt') to grow some in a few weeks for the fall veggie agrden. I'll let ya know how it all turns out.

Just came back from HOme Depot and saw a 'must have' plant for the goth garden... an ornamental pepper plant 'Black Pearl' that had the blackest leaves Ive ever seen.. the unripe peppers were also a shiny black (dunno if they were ripe or not) and was accompanied by some that were either ripe or unripe (cant tell) that were a gorgeous red... I dont wanna spend any money so managed to pick up a few of the fruits that has fallen tot he ground (yes, I asked if it was ok to do that) and brought them home.. will see if I can dry them out and grow my own WOOT!

http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/118938/

Hornell, NY(Zone 5a)

What a beautiful plant!

I had one similar a few years back, it was extremely "hot", had to wear gloves to handle the plant and fruit. Don't touch eyes, nose, or any sensitive skin or you'll live to regret it after handling this plant!

Some folks like hot peppers, but this one was too much for my taste.

Al

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Good for you, Kelz! I'll have to remember that trick next time I'm at HD or Lowes - LOL!

The red ones are the ripe ones. They are edible but sold as ornamental because they are HOT HOT HOT!! I have some "Largo Purple" pepper seeds I'm gonna start soon because I like the plant. It's gorgeous, but again the peppers are way too hot for me, amd I like hot.

The "Black Pearl" will be a great addition to the Goth Garden!

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)
