Cool drink on a hot day

I know this may belong in the recipe section, but I wanted to share it with all of you that work outside in the garden.

I found this recipe while on vacation, and yesterday while working outside in the garden, decided to try and make some out of the fresh Lemon Cukes I am growing. I had to by the limes as I have no lime tree... But is was refreshing to say the least, and kept me hydrated, which is important out here in the desert.

24 oz or 2-12 cans, of club soda
1/4th cup fresh lime juice, (I used 5 limes)
1 cucumber ( I used 2 small Lemon Cucumbers) sliced thin
Combine all in a pitcher with ice..

The recipe says you can add 1/2 cup of gin before serving.. (I have not tried it with the Gin...)

There's a restaurant here in Boston that serves their water with slices of cucumber and lemon; I fell in love with it at first sip. This sounds like the same sort of refreshing, clean taste. Thanks!

Never tried cantelope but a slice of lemon in water is used often down here in the deep south. It helps to quench thirst as well as adding that clean taste.

Jim gotta second that slice of lemon in water.
Might try lemon cuke in water.
Gee i hate to put a damper on the alcohol but just not good for dehydration. SOUNDS GOOD IN LATE EVENING THO.

It really does refresh you... I am addicted to it (without the gin) made a pitcher of it at work today and had co workers try it... They liked it. I do put lemon and mint in my water, but something in this made it cool me off...

Gotta agree, MissJestr, the cucumbers take that clean freshness to a whole new level than just straight lemon in water. As for alcohol being dehydrating--not a problem here in the northeast, where I'm still wearing sweaters and socks most days. My garden is so far behind and waterlogged that it's seriously depressing me...maybe that's why the gin sounds so good!

Well since I am a Baptist preacher I guess I'd better leave the gin alone. I have to slip around where no one knows me to buy beer to catch slugs with. I'll have to try the cukes. I love those things. Usually eat 2 or 3 a day, in season.

its a good drink without the gin.. I took a batch with me to a roping tonight and everyone loved it. When we were done catching cows, we all took a good drink. I love it.. it is my new summer drink.

LOL Jim, I know the feeling. I use to get my BIL to get me beer to use as a hair rinse.

Cando1, I keep running into you on the different threads, just where is Ozone located. I like Hot Springs and Harrison and tried to move to Hebert Springs one time. Probably would have if the chamber of commerce had answered my letter. I like the mountains in the summer. If we get to take a vacation that is where we head.

MissJestr, keep your eyes out for a man named Eddie Dunn. He heads and heels a lot in Ariz. Dear friend of mine. In fact if I could I would adopt him.

The lemon also acts as a natural diuretic. Restaurants down here also serve lemon with their water.

LOL Jim and Cando! When I was on church staff (children's minister and other various things), I always had to be cautious when buying beer for the snails/slugs. Had to go shopping on the other side of town! LOL

Jim that name sounds really familiar... Hummm wonder where I have heard it before.. There is a big roping next weekend here in Kingman up at the castle rock in Golden Valley....

Eddie is one of the best heelers around. Ropes mostly in Louisiana but goes to Ariz. and Texas a lot. Think he makes more money roping than he does his job. Goes to the nationals nearly every year. Seems like he won that thing about five or six years ago.
