I had some coneflowers that got Yellow aster disease last year, so I dug and threw them out. This year all of my conflowers look good, but all of my asters in the front are turning yellow and brown and look to be dying. Could they have this disease, or what other problems would you suggest that they may have. Note that all of the perennials and roses around the asters are doing great, it is only the asters that are dying. Thanks for any info!
can asters get Yellow aster disease?
Yes, asters can get aster yellows. But your symptoms don't necessarily sound like aster yellows and there are lots of other things that could cause things to turn yellow, brown and die (watering issues probably being the most common). Here's a site that describes aster yellows symptoms so you can see if anything sounds like what your plants are doing http://www.ipm.iastate.edu/ipm/hortnews/2006/9-13/asteryellows.html If you can post a picture someone might be able to tell if that's what is going on with your plants or if it's likely something else.
