Fall Cabbage

I grew cabbage for the first time this year, and it turned out great. I started eight plants indoors in late March, transplanted them to the garden the first of May, and harvested eight big heads of cabbage in late June.

We ate several heads, gave a couple away, and I made sauerkraut from the last three. The sauerkraut turned out great, and that was my first time making it too.

I've got several rows of sweet corn that'll be ready in about 2 weeks and when it's gone I'll have some room in my garden. I'd like to grow about eight more heads of cabbage to harvest in the fall. Should I start those indoors as I did before, or just sow them direct into the garden? When should I plant them in zone 6a? We could possibly (but not likely) have snow and a hard freeze by Halloween. Any advice will be appreciated.

I too grew wonderful cabbage for the 1st time last fall. Cabbages are considered 2 B a cole crop that loves the cool weather. I know they can tolerate temps down to around 45-40 degrees. I think with the time you have, I'd go ahead and direct sow. Protect your seedlings from extreme heat and keep em happy. Nothing beats a wish but a try. Please keep me posted if you decide 2 go 4 it! Ozark, bite your tongue about having snow and freeze by Halloween. LOL
I'm not that far south of you in the Arkansas ozarks.
I'd go for sowing the seeds too. They'll come up fast in this heat. Just keep them watered.
