What! You are killing me! Throwing plants away in the bin??? (grasping chest - in pain). LOL!
Tropical Garden #44
Placenciarita, Datura looks like triple but I think it's double.
Ardesia, Sea hibbi is really pretty.
Debra, good growing!
I tried to start few white crepe myrtle cuttings but not having very good luck.
Randy, I hate to hear how discouraged you are with that drought. I don't blame you and if you can imagine we have the exact opposite problem. We have been deluged this simmer and it is way too wet and buggy to work or just sit outdoors.
The only good thing is that I am saving more than a $100 a month on the water bill. No irrigation needed.
This is the first year since we installed our sprinkler system (over 10 yrs ago) that we've had to supplement the supplemental water, running hoses all over the place. How nutty is that? I have lost a burgundy bottlebrush and the regular red bottlebrush has a lot of dried out branches. Grass is pretty crispy, too.
You're right about feeling like a prisioner having to stay indoors, like we feel in Jan/Feb.
RachelLF, Amazonica vine must be very rare, there is only one picture of it in the plant files. I thought that my rex begonia vine was pretty, but I like yours much better.
I will try to root a cutting of the variegated sea hibiscus for you.
I got a ID on my plant, it is a Philo. Crassinervium. Thanks for helping.
Rj, it is so good to have you back. Cheer up, there is a cold front in the forecast.
Just this morning, I mentioned to a friend how nice and lush my garden was this time last year. Right now I am struggling to keep plants alive.
It feels and looks like the dog days of summer here as well, dry brown grass, I only water my plants .
LOL, ya know...I bet that spider lilly is dormant in the mulch bin too. I saw growing in there earlier this year..they are so BIG.
Vossner I have hoses all over the place. I've been fine spraying the tree fern, but the fronds are still burning even with an umbrella. Course I can't get the umbrella to cover the whole thing it's so big. At least I have 3 different water faucets in the back garden!
Cold front..haaa...like the way it sounds anyway! Let me go look at that forecast!
your right...only 92F on Sunday. I'm finding out just how tolerable 92 & 93F really is. We didn't get much hotter than that the whole last summer.
LOL, it was 85 the other day and I wore long sleeves when I walked the dog. Who da thunk???
I'm sweating right with you RJ. It's in the high 90's here and the only thing that saves you when your outside in the morning watering is the coastal breeze.
Rita is this your shooting star?
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=6815664
I killed another one (that makes two) so I've done with those for awhile.
My niece lives close to you Rita and she said that temperatures have been in the 100's in your neck of the woods. Is that correct???? She pretty much keeps herself and my little nephew in the house except he now knows the word "pool" from when he visited us a few weeks ago and she takes him to their club pool.
Gonna go read RJ's blog . . . stay cool every one!
Patty
Hi everyone.. it is hot here. my poor tall mirabilas by the door just said too hot and the whole plant flopped over.. it is the size of a small tree ( four of them) anyway I tied it up and told it to suffer with the rest of us.. Rita, I have been growing a tiny seedling rose of sharon from seed, it is a purple double ruffle, this is its' first summer and it is still in the little grow pot.. I got the seeds from my sis in laws house before they moved. the neighbors next door have a nice young one, it is lavender, the one I have its three years old and is white with red center, just now budding..here is a nice shot of my I. Plantesis caudex glory

phughes, that is a shooting star plant. The original plant from zone 9 died also, but I was lucky to have taken a few cuttings before she croaked.
I start watering around 5 am and by 11am, I am burning up. Unfortunately, I do not have a pool, or I would be in it, like your little nephew.
Yellow buttercup
joeswife, I like the foliage as well as the blooms on your morning glory plant. After a little research on it, I found out that it can survive extreme periods of drought. That is what I need to plant in Texas.
I can see your Brug. Maya peeking out at the botton of your picture. She is looking Fabulous, as well.
Firebush
He's right smack dab in the middle of the pict
I see that cute little hummer too;-) Are they just not the sweetest lil bird's in the world?
Rita, You are so very kind to try and start me a variegated sea hibiscus . I will try and start you a piece of my Amazonica vine if you would like? It's been an "easy" houseplant for me and I would choose it any day over my Rex vine which I like as well. Glad to hear you got an I.D. for your plant. I will have to look up a Philo.Crassinervium plant.
These two pic's have nothing to do with Tropical plant's but I thought I would share a pic or two of "Canadian Geese" which come here every year to raise their young.
Going to go read RJ's latest blog.
Morning, Rita cute hummer!
Rachel, love those geeses...
Sunshine I have never seen a real buttercup....
went to lawrence yesterday to a water tropical nursery .. the water plants and ponds were fabulas..
posting from work so can't show pictures yet..
Someone here in this area has those chinese beans growing, would love to grow some.. ( I like to eat them)
I have tomatoes everywhere..
My naked Ladies are up..
Yes, that is hard to capture anything white .. yours are awsome tho..
I probably need to take pictures of the white flowers in the early evening.
mine are just blooming...which seems really late for here...probably because there's not enough water.
LiliMerci, you did a good job taking that picture, it is perfect. It seems as if you will have a new flower every day for a few more days. The Japanese morning glory is very beautiful too.
Rj, there is still a cold front in the weather forecast, fingers crossed.
We need a volunteer to start a new thread, my kodak moments are few lately.
