pretty color on your mom's!
Thanks!
Karen
Karen; Do both of those plants (the hybrids of your mom's) have good branching and bud counts? They are both nice... would love to see the Cinnamon one in person. How nice to have them from your mom.
Love Ladie Boy and the Humello.
I've never tried crocosmia, are they hardy to z 4-5?
Lucifer crocosmia is the least touchy when it comes to where it want to live.
Its almost invasive here.
just checked Lucifer is hardy Z5-10
I may have to try it. lol
Karen how many dl's have you posted so far?:) They look great, really liked the ones from your mom - great to have. will have to look at the sun & substance hosta again - do not have it.
Bonica is nice Leigh - we have four of them - look good and easy to care for!
I was thinking the same thing about that Hosta...I really like it!!
Luvly pics all! The daylilys seem to be coming on strong everywhere now! uh oh I grew my sea hollys from seed this year and put 6 all together planning to move them to different spots next year when they're bigger. I guess I better plan for a 'field' of sea hollys. I luv the little Blue Hobbit sea holly too. Did you find out if your cat is a good cat/bad cat flowerjen? I'm hoping its a good cat.
I still believe it's a fall webworm, so I need to find it and squoosh it.
ewww yuck. I would squoosh it too. The squooshing technique seems to have worked well on the delph worms this year. I didn't have to top too many plants. Now if only I could catch and squoosh the leafhoppers :(
Robin,
#2 looks like 'Siloam Ury Winniford' http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/20753/
or possibly 'Pandora's Box' http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/216606/
Friso is beautiful and so is the color of that Mondara!! Love the fairy trio, that came fast!
The daylily must be from Pirl, it's not one i HAVE.
hhhmmm that's what she said... maybe it's one I bought and don't remember
I am keeping that patch of monarda for Michele... her hubby has a tenancy to pull stuff out when it looks ugly... so if you want some let me know... might have other colors too... going to bloom soon
LH, most of my Mom's hybrids don't have high bud counts, though branching isn't bad. She was hybridizing back in the 90's, before bud counts really got high, and many of the cultivars she used were registered in the 70's and 80's. She did not have much money to get cutting edge DL's of the time, so she did what she could with what she had.
That cinnamon one is quite tall, about 3 1/2'-4' I'd say. And the flower is a good 6" or more. I will have to get the stats on it. I'd like to register it. Mulberry Crown (Moldovan '82) is the pod parent, but the pollen parent is unknown. It's rather crowded where it is now, so I have to separate it out and give it more room to multiply and grow to it's full potential. I'll give it a few more years of evaluation before I do anything, or maybe I will just keep as a bridge plant for breeding. It had good, sturdy scapes that don't lean at all. I don't like ones that lean.
I have a really pretty spider DL that leans too much, so I may get rid of it for that reason. It's called Nina Winegar. It's an old one by Bechtold 1950. Really needs to be staked. Here's a picture of it.
Karen
Thanks, everyone, for the comments on my photos. Nice pics, all!
Bill, I have not kept count of how many DL pics I've posted so far. I still have many more. This time of year I'm out there everyday to photograph the DL's cause new flowers are open everyday.
Allison, the 'Friso' lily is gorgeous, and so is the 'Acapulco Orange' agastache. Your double orange DL is 'Kwanso'. It's a species type and not a hybrid.
Marilyn, I agree with Celeste, I think your cream DL with the maroon eye is probably 'Siloam Ury Winneford'.
Karen
wow thanks Karen.. I have no idea where it came from.. the name doesn't ring a bell... like something I would have bought... no clue
did anyone give me that one at Kassia's last year or Pirl's???
the friso is a yard smeller upper .... love it love it!!!
