How can you tell the differance from weeds and you seedling any tips. I Planted a wild flower scatter mix. I have identified a few plants but how can you rid your self of the weeds with out gettign rid of the plant seedlings
Pulling weeds?
Difficult question! One thing you could try is to google images of the seedlings for the plants you know are in your mix. Otherwise you may have to wait, or post a pic. of what's growing and see if anyone recognizes anything that looks like a potential weed. You might list what's in your mix if you do post a pic. to help people catch the good ones :)
I used images from google and plant files to create a collage so I knew what the wildflower seedlings would look like.
A dear friend of my mothers - an avid gardener - told me the only difference between a weed and a flower is whether you want it or not. So my recommendation is to let the seedlings do their thing. If what blooms doesn't strike your fancy then pull it out.
My sister-in-law has a "bird garden" under her bird feeder from the seeds that didn't get eaten. It really is lovely.
thanks

best advise duck_toller! (sorry, I don't know how to quote in a post)
duck_toller, I think my boyfriend knows that friend of your mothers.
There fore, we have Dame's Rocket growing right next to my flower bed. He loves it!
My mom has quite a few "weeds" in her yard that she has grown attached to. My dad always threatens to cut them down. I'm have a large one growing right now that I'm waiting to see if it will flower.
O.K. I have to admit I have a tiny corner in my yard with Fireweed, Mustard, a Thistle (yes it's true but I haven't seen them anywhere else around so I figure it's "safe"),and some unidentified thing I'm waiting to see with foliage that reminds me of dill but it's def. not. I would post a pic but I kind of enjoy the mystery ;)
I know kassy_51 will think I'm crazy for that LOL! "What???? Hack it down!!!!"
LOL icanfindroom. I would not :p........LOL
As my BF says, anything that blossoms is a flower ;-)
And I found Musk Mallow growing in the old flower bed here that I transplanted all of my flowers out of. It must have known that I needed more flowers there :)
My mom liked it so we would let grow anyplace that we found it at her house.
And I want to know what that one that kind of looks like dill turns out to be.
Sounds like your boyfriend should be on DG as well! ;) Gardener all the way. If you two ever share a yard you'll have to divide it into his and her sections!
I will post as soon as the little bugger kicks a flower out. Still waiting...................................................(you know the feeling)..........................................buds bigger...........................AAAAARRRRRRG!
Your right icanfindroom, he should be on here :)
And I was on messenger with him just a while ago and i copied and pasted the part about if him and I ever have to share a yard.....LOL
Now I will copy and paste his reply to that one here.
Are ya ready??
We divide the yard already.........ROTFL
He waters my flowers for me when I'm not there :)
Do I have him trained, or what?
Good man! That's so funny!
A great guy :) But likes too may weeds that bloom (rolls eyes).....LOL
Still waiting on that mystery plant ;-)
