Is this helpful at all? I've herd the poo is good but there are some added chemicals
watering plants with fishtank water?
i dont think that would be a good idea. too much salt and some tanked are treated with copper and other additives
ilovecatz, I used the water from the fish tank all the time when I had fish to water the plants. And my mom did too. This is provided it's not salt water, and no chemical's
have been used to treat the water.
Mine and my mom's where fresh water tanks.
My mom also collected rain water for her plants. Better then well or city water.
i had some gravel from an old tank sitting in a blur pot on my deck the blue gravle just seemed to add somthing. The pot had no drainage holes but the gravel was about 3 in deep. I put a plant that i had thinned from a dish garden and could not beliec the growth and beauty of this plant. Am now trying to find oet stires that will let me have thier old gravel.
this gravel was from f/water tank and had set in sub ib deck for 5-6 weeks so both of these may make a difference. Id i can get the fravel i plan to follow the accidentle riciept anyway.:)
Don't do container veggies but I use the water from the dehumidifier to water the Lady's pot plants.
I use fish gravel, river rocks, marbles and even shells to cover the soil on the to of planters. It makes them look nicer and I can tell if somone has been playing with them. I sometimes mix water from the tanks and rain or tap water.
I use the water from the dehumidifier too Jim. Why dump it out when the plants like it?
I dont have a dehumidifier but I wonder if the water that drips from the AC would work
Hmmmmm, you know iluvcatz, I never thought about that. That 's a good question. I don't see why it wouldn't.
As a matter of fact I just googled it and came up with this story......Self Watering Garden - Using recycled water from an air conditioner
My BF has an AC that is in a window above where I have zing rose planted. I know the water drips down into the small bed that it is in. It doesn't seem to mind it, because it comes back year after year.
Water from the air conditioner is the same stuff. Moisture pulled out of the air. This water, I think, is a lot better than what comes out of a water line. I personally buy all the water I drink. Hate to water my garden with the stuff but it is a have to situation with me. Wish I had paid attention when I was a kid, Dad must have put down eight or nine pumps when I was growing up. I wish I knew how he did it.
I was out in the rain yesterday filling my spray bottles, watering can and a 2 gallon bucket. I got soaked but my plants better not die!!
LOL iluvcatz,
My mom kept 5 gallon pails at her down spouts from the gutters. So you don't have to stand out there and get soaked ;-)
We haven't been getting enough rain here to do that :( so we have been watering with well water.
Your not going to believe this, but my mom also use to melt the snow in the winter. She would put a pail of it in front of a heat duct, that way moister was added to the dry air, and the plants got the water after the snow melted.
Can you tell my mom lived though a depression? I could.....LOL
I put the out when it started to rain
Water that drips out of the ac is basically Distilled. It has no nutrients to add to the plants. It will keep your plants wet but will not feed them. Rain water is great but the best is reuse water from a waste water plant. My city has a separate water main for Irrigation that uses city reuse water. This stuff is teaming with beneficial nutrients. Plus it is cheaper because you don't have to pay the added fees.
Don't know that I would want to water with filtered poop water. Don't know about nutrients in water, being a dumb ole red neck, my plants just like "wet". I will say that the wife's pot plants under the car port look really good water with the dehumidifer water but it might be the epsom salts and miracle grow she puts on them.
Agrees with JIm, and I'm not a red neck. LOL
LOL, well the authorities frown on that here so i don't think i will experiment with those plants anytime soon.
Well there is a whole science behind it that i will spare the "geek" details but basically it is like miracle grow compared to granular fertilizer. You mix cow manure in with your soil to get great results... this is the same thing in liquid form diluted down. With all of the impurities and harmful chemicals biologically removed. Plus.. it is 90% rainwater to boot.
They say they are taking out the harmful chemicals but................hmmmmm
Down the line? Hmmmmmmmm
I'll wait and let you try it out Dan ;-)
Let me know how it works :)
Kassy, I build these water plants. Here in florida anyways. The government keeps a close eye on every parameter of this water to make sure it meets strict environmental guidlines. Chlorine Levels, pH, Nitrates ect... Most of your golf courses and agricultural groves are all fed using this water. For a nerd like myself, it is a very interesting process. I (the company i work for) builds water treatment and waste water treatment plants all over the state of Florida.
OMG Dan, I just looked at where you are from when you mentioned Florida.
Want to pop over and say Hi to my son's mother-in-law? She lives in Winter Haven too....LOL
I even have a t-shirt that says Winter Haven on it :)
She will be coming for a visit soon, after all, our falls are to cold for her......LOL
She would never be able to handle our winters.
Neither would I! I was born in raised in Florida. I have spent a few winters in Georgia and North Carolina and they were bad enough! It is amazing how small the world can seem sometimes!
I remember a few years ago when they built the waste treatment plant at the school where I drove a bus. All the time they were building it the guy in charge kept saying, "and when we are through you can drink the water coming out the pipe." Well, they finally got through and turned the joker on. As the water began to trickle out the end of the pipe, the guy said, "it's pure enough to drink." The janitor of the school handed him a glass and said go ahead and drink. He refused. Water filtered off human waste is not something I want on my veggies. If I had a golf course I would use it. I'd even use it on the flower beds but not on my garden, even if it is pure enough to drink. Hey, but to each his own.
TO: Kassy_51 By the power I have vested in myself I hereby do proclaim you to be an "Honorary Red Neck." I am to choked up for words.
LOL Jim
I have watered my plants with my aquarium water for years, and it's great for them!
