How to encourage ivy re-growth?

I had to pull a bunch of weeds and alien vines out of my ivy beds, and now the ivy looks a little worse for wear -- lots of bare stalks. What techniques can I try to help it fill in again?

I don't know if you need to do anything--ivy is a pretty vigorous plant (sometimes a bit too vigorous!) so I suspect it'll grow back fine on its own.
