OH DON!!!!!!!!! My gosh .. I would be inside to STAY in heat like that .. and .. you're certainly correct with regards to AC .. mine has been on once today so far .. we're at about 25C outside .
We are watering as well .. have soaker hoses in the veg garden .. they work wonderfully well ..
Betty .. I don't know .. my Mom was a bathroom fanatic .. meaning keeping them spotless .. so .. I seem to have taken over the reins so to speak .. I used to do a total cleaning twice a week .. then I decided once a week was quite adequate with just a bit of a 'go over' mid week .. LOVE those lysol wipes ..
Mind .. I am NOT a dusting fanatic !!!! Could write a letter on my end tables I am sure LoL ... THAT would be MY rainy day cleaning project ^_^
So far no call out (hope I haven't jinxed myself), have just had a follow up phone call to make ..
Off to ice a cake ...

What's Happening in Your neighborhood-visit with friends #20
On days like this you start early and get everything you need to get done before noon. And then you are right ~M~, you pretty much hole up inside with the AC. Last night, didn't get a chance to go for a walk with the dog until 9:00 pm. On the plus side, it was 16C at 6:00am this morning so I enjoyed by coffee on the deck with the birds. Very nice! Supposed to be 29C by Sunday. That will give us a little relief.
30C at Noon today.
Marilynne - I've probably gone the other way in my old age. I love the new microfibre cloths with a bit of foaming Windex with ammonia to keep the bathrooms sparkling, but I don't do it as thoroughly as you do.
Grandtwins are asleep downstairs. We went out to dinner with their parents as a belated birthday dinner and gave their parents one more night off at Bluesfest. They are both tired - don't think they've really caught up after the KISS concert the other night. They'll go home tomorrow.
I've been slipping in work at the Chamberfest office during the week. It starts a week from tomorrow. I'll go in tomorrow to help them send out the volunteer work lists by email. Here's a promotional video on You Tube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQcPysRt6vs
Have also been acquiring yarn for an afghan for DGD#2 in Vancouver. Here's a pic of the twins looking at THEIR afghans almost 5 years ago. http://www.magma.ca/~fredrkng/Twins/AmyNolanAfghans.html They are really cute with lots of little animals. I have all the yarn colours now except a bright fuchsia-pink for the pigs. Anyone know of a source of worsted weight acrylic in that colour? They make good piece work as I spend a lot of time downtown during Chamberfest.
Ann
Seems to have been a busy week. Downpour for a few hours on Monday which left a lot of flooding in the city - the drain in our back lane for instance needs cleaning out and so w had a major lake. Responses from the city were not too enthusiastic until somebody started to mention property damage. Somebody drove by yesterday but of course no water there now. The drain is rather low and when they grade the lane in the spring a lot ofdirt and gravel gets shoved down it.
Finally found a nice pair of shoes to wear in the summer at Lougheed house - they are actually dance pratice shoes, super comfortable.Look like the hite shoes my wMom used to ear back in the day with little holes punched all over the leather.
And yesterday I decided to shop for a summer dress and ended up with 3 outfits, two of them sleeveless low neck types, one is a red an white print, the other black with a green and blue print, then splurged on a somewhat dressier outfir, brown sheath dress with brown and white jacket(which was entirely suitable to wear to a neighbors memorial service today). Best of all they are all size 16 - I have not worn anything that 'small' for many years! Guess the time at Curves is starting to pay off!
Doing some renovations in the garden, have removed a large spreading junier, a dogwood and half a mugo pint! Now I have to get the guy in to grind the stumps. And then start planning what Im going to do in the space!
Off up north tomorrow with the dogs for a big sheltie party and then overnighting with Annabelle in Edmonton. So no computor until Sunday evening!
Oh my Ann .. those Afghans are wonderful !! I can well imagine it would keep a little one quite entertained ..
Hope you're able to find the proper colour and type of yarn.
Carol .. your shoes AND outfits sound wonderful .. enjoy them !!
Have some pics of YARD stuff :-)
First is my Asaitic Lilly (what's left of them)
~M~
Hard to tell w/o a close-up just what hostas you've got there, except the one at 5:00 is an Undulata Albomarginata. The other white margined ones look a bit different.
Spent the morning helping at the Chamberfest office. They are down to the crunch getting the volunteer schedules ready as the festival opens in a week. It looks like most days I'll be working two concerts with an occasional third one. Will probably also attend one or two in addition each day.
This year they are using a new venue which doesn't have a foyer. I've agreed to act as house manager for some concerts there. I haven't been a house manager for a few years because the HM gets stuck in the foyer dealing with whatever happens. That might still happen, but when things are OK, at least I'm in the same room as the concert.
Are your lilies afflicted by the red European lily beetle? I didn't think it had spread as far west as you are, but ...
Also got in some practicing this afternoon and might again this evening for awhile. I'm ON for music in church tomorrow.
The DGTwins have gone home to their parents and neighbourhood friends. Nice to have them. Nice to see them go. :-)
Ann
I'm in HIGH gear here .. relatives passing through from South Hampton are coming for lunch .. good thing I did some tidying up when I did .. and .. I BAKED !!!
Awesome day here .. gonna be 23C and sunny .. and ... LIGHT winds !!!!
Enjoy your day everyone
~M~
Home after my short weekend in Edmonton.
I dont know how many shelties we had at the party on Sat but it was quite a crod - at least 29! We were out on an acreage and they had a huge fenced area to run around in and the humans had a good time chatting and eating.
It was VERY HOT!
Later I drove into Edmonton and stayed overnight with Ann ( annabelle) We had quite a storm on Sat evening although mainly just wind and a bit of hail in her location but apparently there was lots of rain and hail elsewhere in the city.
This morning it was cloudy and rainy and as I started my drive home the winds were very strong but after about anhour let up a bit. Then getting closer to Calgary the sky was almost black and eventually had some hard rain but it didnt last long.
Ann has a lovely garden and great containers. She gave me permission to post a few pics. This is the front yard.
Beautiful garden, Ann (I know the word beautiful is highly overused, but it sure applies here!!).
Thanks for posting pics, Fancy!
Carol
Thanks for the super photo's and the visit! We had a good time and her four legged kids were very well behaved and are welcome any time! Knowing how lovely Carol's garden is I was honored with her kind remarks.
We rescued a baby robin that was blown ,nest and all from the tree, and put it out of harms way in the lilacs in my yard to keep it out of view of the neighbors cat.
Jagonjune came over for Tea on Sunday morning and we visited some more. My Hubby just stayed out of the way other than driving us to dinner on Saturday night! He's not used to all the females around. LOL
So we had an impromtu Edmonton RU with a Calgaryian on the side!
Ann
Awesome pics and how nice you were able to get together and share some time ... I often times feel like the "Maytag Repairman' ... I have no one on Dave's site close to me, AND, I find it so hard to believe I am the ONLY person in TBay who belongs to the site as we certainly do have some awesome gardens (and gardners)
Had a super visit with the realtives yesterday, taking them to dinner on Tuesday .. they will head west on Wednesday ..
You Westerners sure have had some bad weather, hopefully that has broken for you .. we have been promised a 'wet week', will believe it when I see it !!
Have a great week !!
~M~
We were really lucky with the weather, Marilyn - Edmonton got hit badly, and possibly a tornado touched down! We had a "blow-by" and only got a stiff sprinkle of rain. Always welcome in our dry climate!
We were promised Large Hail & Damaging Winds, but I'm glad we didn't get it. Calgary is quite windy enough without more wind! lol
Ann & JargonJune - how was it for you, in Edmonton?
Good orning all, got back late..ever so tired..almost napping here this morning..I can tell you this, won't be a late night for this old gal..mom enjoyed herself..don't know how, took her to Salamanca N.Y. and she gambled away a fortune..don't understand it, but it makes her happy, me I wouldn't give them a dime..think she got tired of my looking over her shoulder, she put $20 in a machine and said "PLAY" I did for an hour with same $20.00 and got tired, cashed it out and got a few pennies more than $60.00 ..
I'm all shopped out...did go to CrackerBarrel though, bought another watch and bracelets that are changeable as I so loved the other 8 I had..nice to keep changing the bead bracelets of different colors as to match each outfit I wear..got a few and a stained glass lamp for Cathy who looks after the furries while I'm away...
I did get to talk to Jeff on Fri./Sat. & Sun just to make sure his adventure was going as planned..ooops had my heart in my throat a few times...he's 1 day ahead of himself on this Kayak adventure..10 more days to do...didn't think he'd keep at it this long...says he's always JUST ahead of the storms...they are calling for a nice week so he should enjoy the days ahead...
Wow, loved all the photo's...gardens are spectacular..no words to say how beautiful they are...I got to walk the gardens when I arrived home last night, lots of work needs doing..can't believe it was only 3 days that I was away...lots of changes in what's dying and blooming..maybe a few photo's tonight if I stay awake that long...
Hope you are all enjoying your day..may it be filled with sunshine..
Weather has been wacky for sure and Carol got a first hand view of that on Saturday night. Lots of trees down and branches snaped everywhere. North Edmonton got hit harder than South , even a roof was blown off dt. Weather man says that the wind speed was 106 km which was fairly stiff.
A bit of hail and slight damage to my Canna's but that may have been the wind as they are split like a knife cut them on the seams, no holes in Hostas.
Wow, ann - glad there was no more damage than that! Did Edmonton get a tornado touchdown?
Saw a bit of it on our local news last night..omg how terrifying for many..strangest weather this year....
Must be that "global warming" they warned us about, years ago......
HI
No tornado that I know of , weather guys were saying some funny names for the wind bursts. We on the South side escaped the nastiest part that hit the North side.
Ann
glad you're alright, Ann!
Sheesh .. as I said before .. you Westerners are sure putting up with CRAPPY weather !!!
Those ' down bursts' are horrendous !!
We have had another lovely day .. NO RAIN .. so .. that means more watering .. hopefully the cruddy weather from Winnipeg will cause us to have some rain over the next few days.
Awful fires out west in and near Kelowna .. have family in Summerland .. a fair piece away .. but .. the WINDS are what to watch .. not sure what way fires will travel ...
Seems they MIGHT have found the remains of Torri Stafford (a little girl from ONT who went missing months ago) such a sad sad time for her family ..
SO .. where were you forty years ago today ? I was watching a MAN land on the Moon :-)
~M~
PS .. glad your back Betty .. ^_^
We are all really hopeful the fires in West Kelowna will be contained soon. Although we are southest of Kelowna the smoke has filtered down through our valley as well. Living in the forested mountain terrain of our region, forest fires are always a threat and one we take very seriously. Today the winds are fairly calm so hopefully the firefighters can get a handle on them. Our temperatures continue to be very hot though, which is a disadvantage for them.
I'm thankful that Ann in Edmonton is all right and also pray that the fires in Kelowna area will be contained shortly. I guess you really need a change of weather out there don't you? Sure wish I could send some of the rain we've had out there.
Used my new bus pass this morning. Will have to start using it to make it pay. Actually, next week during chamberfest, I'll be using it regularly to get around between venues as the main ones are too far apart to easily walk this year.
I don't understand it, but I don't recall much of watching the lunar landing 40 years ago though I must have done so.
Still no word what has happened to the gnomes. Do you suppose that DG would take on trying to contact the last person to have had them? Possibly they've gone on vacation, but I've had no response to D-mails. It would appear that they were sent a distance one can travel by car in about an hour, almost two weeks ago.
Ann
Northwestern Ontario has had its share of really horrid forest fires over the years .. am so crossing my fingers that this 'drought' we are in does not give way to any.
Ann .. I can remember watching the Lunar Landing in school ... we were in an auditorium .. and I really was more concerned about the fact that my friend had gotten NEW shoes!!! Oh the memories .. if I had known then what I had known now .. I definitely would have paid MORE attention !!!
Quite the conundrum re the Gnomes .. I remember sending mine in such a fashion as to have had a tracking number.
As you say .. the person expecting them could very well be on holiday .. here's hoping it isn't a 6 month Sabbatical ..
We have WIND this evening .. lovely :-( there goes the watering effort !!!!
Take care
~M~
I remember watching the lunar landing. I was living in Boston. Cant remember if I had just bought my first B/W TV or if my neighbor was on holidays and I had hers.
Who had the gnomes and where were they going?
Hope the red area shown below received rain from some of the storms that have blown through...........I spoke to Betts at Plato awhile ago (she's in the red) and they are just sick about the drought in that area. We drove up to Leader and I couldn't believe how incredibly dry the grass looked (and that was back in May). Betts and Wilf have a huge herd of cattle and a large grain farm (I don't know what they will be/have been feeding their cattle and I have my doubts there will be any crop to take off). In the Dirty Thirties that area did very well (Betts and Wilf now own my grandparents farm).
Hope this link works: http://www.theweathernetwork.com/video/weather_news/4 (heartbreaking report re prairie drought in 2002)
and BC forest fires http://www.theweathernetwork.com/video/weather_news/5 (past fire but puts a human face on it)
Please turn your fans and blow those rain filled Ontario clouds west!
I know Kelowna will appreciate it too (one of my co-workers has a son with family living there.......his wife's mother lives only blocks from the fire...she's been evacuated).

Awesome footage Lilypon .. 2 very sad stories .. and, unfortunately, becoming all too common.
Wouldn't it be a marvelous thing if we could 'program' the weather.
Thunder Bay is again awaiting a storm. Several have been predicted over the past 6 weeks, and, each one has reached Lake Superior and RUN scared LoL .. in other words .. we are in desperate need of a GOOD rain .. not 20 drops at a time.
My thoughts are with the folks living in and around Kelowna BC
~M~
Watched the news footage this morning as well...heart goes out to all who have had to evacuate and some still waiting for news to evacuate..main concern is 'life' though..things can be replaced..
Sun keeps coming through the clouds this morning, quite breezy..you know, I've had a burning pile for several weeks waiting to burn, either it's wet from rain or the wind is up...
Walking through my gardens last night, you could actually feel 'fall' almost everything has already bloom, most early..I'll be lucky to have any flowers in August...have to purchase some potted plants and set them here and there in the garden just for color...
Lunar landing, I was 21, at home because I had my eye teeth taken out and glad that I was spending time with my newborn...
Lunar landing - I was 15, and spent every waking moment at the swimming pool, 2 miles from home (yes, we were still on mileage, not kilometers, then lol - dark ages, eh?)
I haven't seen the news footage, but hear it on the radio. I heard they were letting some people go back to their homes...... at least that's what I THOUGHT I heard.....maybe wishful thinking. I'm going to check out those links, lilypon - thank you.
Betty - too early to be thinking about that "f" word LOL I know, I know - you mean it only in the nicest, purest way lol but I'm not ready to talk Fall, yet....
In Calgary, we have winter, and then we have July! July's not over yet!!!!!
I picked some rhubarb the other night, and made a Rhubarb Custard pie - brought it to work. My DH doesn't like anything other than Strawberry Rhubarb pie, so he won't eat it. I brought it so the physicians in my Division can have it (as can I lol)
I see what you are talking about today Marilynne re Thunder Bay missing out......maybe it will come later on this afternoon.
Drought is just a missed rainfall away and many of those in the red zone have missed out on snow and rain for almost a year. This year we lucked out and our farm had a good May rain shortly after seeding and it has had good showers since (knocking on wood). Hail stay away!!! I keep watching the radar hoping to see that the drought has been broken in Alberta.......this one is soooo severe.
What Marilynne's region is currently missing.......

That DANG storm just slipped right on by us AGAIN .. we had a 10 minute downpour around 9am .. then 'pffffft' ..
Keep hearing we will be getting a storm later .. maybe it'll be magical and create itself ?
We are out for fish and chips with out of town company this evening ... we'll be taking Lilly with us in the car as she is none too happy about thunder storms .. she is fine if someone is with her .. but I in all honesty could NOT leave her alone in the house ... Smokey would be here .. but .. he's the 'COWBOY CAT' .. he isn't afraid of anything !!!!
Global warming just seems to have snuk up and given us a HUGE wake up call !!!
~M~
last year I had several weeks needing the a/c, this year, I've had the furnace on..
We're going to get something just not sure what...it's sooo hot out there but you can feel a storm coming..
My baby is on day 7 of his solo kayak trip..he's made good time so today he gets to relax at a resort with friends then back to heavy duty paddling..I keep reading his blog, quite interesting ..me who worries about him every day don't like the idea that he keeps referring to the kayak as his 'coffin'..doesn't give me a good feeling...
omg - he's really pushing ur buttons, isn't he?!
Here's his blog if you'd like to drop in...
http://2009summertrip.blogspot.com/
Overcast here today, calling for rain but lordy it keeps missing us..one would think with the cold and the rain we've had for a big that I would not have burnt grass areas on the lawn, had to water last night and this morning...
keeps one busy..yuk..(block your ears..."gardens have a fall like appearance.." please say it isn't so...lol
imagine, Suzanne picked up her Sears catalogue, fall edition yesterday and brought it in for me to look at..isn't that depressing..
OMG did you hear about the man who won the 4.2 million last week...got his photo taken, went to collect the $$$...police were waiting for him to come out of the building..he'd been charged a few years ago (think theft) and didn't go to his court date so a warrant had been issued...
Hope this wasn't the joke news..lol
