tamberlin - it's a tropical called Lindsey Woods
I Feel Gypped!
Very nice waterlily, Christina. Mine are doing fine.
So are mine; they don't seem to mind being wet ;-)
Knock on wood---I haven't seen any slugs, & there are no holes in the hostas! Yet!
Thank goodness I haven't seen any slugzillas I just have the babies. Very easy to squoosh.
Robin, that is just remarkable that you don't have slugs! Everyone I know up here has been hit hard by them. I caught another one today dangling by a thread over my daylilies.
Regarding SLUGS:
About 4-6 weeks ago (I can't remember which thread or forum), someone wrote that slugs hate tobacco, and so he starting incorporating his old cigar butts into the soil, and....no more slugs!
I don't smoke, so I don't know about this technique, but it would certainly be worth a try.
For cigarettes, the filter would need to be snipped off, and we should remember that lots of chemicals are present, making the idea possibly "un-green."
Any cigar smokers out there? Save the butts!
One would think people would take a lesson from that!
They do! I've never seen a slug smoke!
T'storms just rumbled in & out of here. Good thing because my slugs' skinn was starting to chaffe.
Thunder, lightening and rain here but sun was shining, very strange
Same here. Just had another sun shower.
I still have quite a lot of annual seeds. When is it too late to bother??
Are you storing them in the fridge? You can just keep them for next year, that's what I'm going to do.
What seeds do you have, Victor?
I am reseeding the veg garden as the slugs & birds helped themselves to the seedlings, and I'm just now getting around to it.
So far, they're not in the fridge. Mostly annual flowers, Kate.
I like to have replacement annuals for when those planted earlier start to look funky. About mid-August, the Mums, Pansies, Kale, etc is what's available. I prefer a broader choice: I don't transition from Summer to Fall that easily...separation anxiety!
Martha, good for you... see its good that you did not plant your rose yet... this way you can protect a little...
there is no way to win!!! and slugs are getting fat at my plants expenses also... they like dahlias... can't blame them... see, here I go maybe is the fact that we are genetically close - like mentioned above.... lol...
Thank you for sending the rain!!!
LOL
We have rain today; it is the 4th of July and that is fine! We are just so happy to be blessed with rain!
April
Rain here, too, but only about 3 minutes of it....sheesh, it has already soaked in and the dirt out there is as hard and cracked as ever. Send it on April...I need more!
And we had no rain today---yippee!
But a view of yards & yards of weeds.
Amen to that! I've got to start all over again in some places!
Found first slug on drip-line hose yesterday. Squash!!! We don't have veggies so maybe not as many are attracted here.
Doyou have hosta?
On a positive note, did anyone notice that there are hardly any Japanese beetles this year? I'm thinking that all the rain "washed" the larva right out!
Plenty here.
I haven't seen one yet.....DH sprayed the end of May/1st of June.
We've seen a few here.
None here yet---lots of other bugs, though----mosquitoes are like 747s.
squished my first one yesterday i think and sprayed today - hate them
Mosquitoes are so bad they were coming down the chimney flue to get into the house.
I walked around for a week with this cyborg type lump in the middle of my forhead where 3 of them tapped me all in the same area at the same time. Everyone of my children felt the need to tell me " You have this huge egg in the middle of your forehead."
YUP I KNOW.
I swear, Pixie, you paint pictures with your words.
I laughed till the cats came running with that one.
That was very funny Celeste.
Slugs must like tobacco somehow. They're devouring my flowering tobacco. Is that in the same smoking tobacco family? I only recently discovered the ammonia/water mix for slugs. I feel like an assassin when I use it. Does it hurt the plants? I've been spotted outside my house in PJs, a flashlight in hand, squirter in the other hand and a miner's light on my head, HUNTING.
The slugs did quite a number on my plants so far. What's left of the holey ones are pale yellow with green veins, or just yellowing entirely from the bottom up from too much rain. I don't know how I'd feel if I had a vegetable garden.
I have a poodle. He doesn't shed at all. Nada. Woo Hoo! I love golden retrievers. They have great personalities.
Celeste,I hope you don't spawn an alien out of your head.
It's finally gone and I pray I don't get another one. My luck it will be just before DD's wedding.
Harper, you sound like me....my neighbors have seen me in jammies and not ordinary ones either. 'Tinker Bell', 'Scooby-Doo', Christmas Penguine's...ect.
I figure if i'm going to make them look, they might as well have something to talk about.
do those come with built in slippers?
Some do, but not all. ^_^
no button's in the seat i hope:)
Nope, those are bright red and better known as a Union Suit.
Only neighbors who P me Off get to see that one. ^_^
Pix, my favorites are my Eeyore jammies, and I think that's spelled wrong. Or maybe the Betty Boops. Neighbors don't seem to mind.
Glad to hear im not alone!!! Hee hee he
