I have what is beleived to be aphids on a hyacinth Lab Lab Bean. What is the best way to rid the plant of them. There is a few Easter Lillies planted at the base if the trellis. Sorry the pic is sideways.
aphids
Can't tell from your pic whether it is aphids or not--here is a picture, maybe you can see if it looks like what you have or not http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/showimage/6977/ (they come in different colors, so don't rule it out if yours aren't green, look at the body shape). I usually hose them off first to get rid of most of them--sometimes I stick with just hosing them off and sometimes I'll use insecticidal soap as well. Most types of insecticides will be effective against aphids so if you've got something around check the label and if it lists aphids. The trick with them is you need to keep checking the plant every few days and hose them off or re-treat if you see more aphids. They reproduce very quickly, so if you miss one the first time and then forget about it for a few weeks, your infestation will be back as bad as ever. One exception to re-treating is if you use a systemic insecticide like Bayer 3-in-1, that gets absorbed into the plant's tissues and continues to work over a longer period of time, so with it you would just apply it once.
Thanks they sorta look like little bumps on the plants, and they are brown. I'll try hosing them and look into the insecticide.
Little brown bumps on the plant sounds more like scale--they are unfortunately a lot harder to get rid of than aphids. Here are a couple sites with some info:
