eastern coastal Newfoundland gardening

Burnside, NL(Zone 5a)

I`m essentially a novice since just moved to this area 11 mos. ago. Any sage advice? Think edelweiss would grow on this rock by the sea? Much colder climate than coastal NC.Think I need help from potatos to canteloupe.
Thanks

My climate is obviously very different so I don't know how much I can help you, but in order to get the best help from other people around here it would help to have a little more information about what you're trying to do. Are you starting a garden from scratch? If so it would help to have some pictures of the area and know how much sun/shade you're getting in the different areas. What sort of look do you want (formal garden vs informal/cottage, etc). Or do you have just a few holes to fill and you're looking for suggestions? Again knowing the amount of sun/shade in the area is critical, as well as what you're looking for in terms of color, height, etc. Also if you're right next to the ocean and getting salt spray that'll impact what sorts of things you can grow.

skydd, there's also a Cold Climate Gardening forum here on Dave's Garden. Perhaps you could get some ideas from checking out the various threads.
