Hello,
So i found a jacaranda that was seeding.. I took some of the pods ... now what?? I have heard to soak the seeds for 24 hrs.. I am doing that now.. how do I know if the seeds are to old ??
Jacaranda tree seeds.. help please
If the seeds were still on the tree when you found them they'll be good for a while--I'm not sure if Jacaranda seeds go bad quick but I'm sure they're still fine now. The bigger question would be whether the seeds were ripe yet or not when you grabbed them--if they weren't ripe yet then they won't germinate either. Were the seed pods still green or were they brown?
they were brown.. and cracked open slightly at the sides
They should be good then. The only other thing besides the soaking would be that they may be a seed that germinates better with bottom heat--I don't know if they do, but a lot of those tropical & semi-tropical trees that need to be soaked also do better with bottom heat. But since the weather's warm now that's probably not as important as it would be if you were starting the seeds over the winter.
