Is sulfur good for control of chiggers? I have about 5 acres, with about 1/8 acre garden. What is good to get rid of chiggers?
Chigger control
I don't know about sulphur, but to control/kill chiggers, the Ag center at LSU reccommends using Dursban, Sevin or Premethrin or diazanon. To keep them off of you, use deet on shoes, socks, pantlegs while you are spraying. The real pest is the larva that must feed inorder to grow/reproduce and what they eat is flesh....your's the dog's cat's or anyother warmblooded creature available.
Texasescimo - Here are a couple of informative articles on chiggers:

I haven't used any chemicals in my yard because I have dogs. I have found that Avon Skin-So-Soft Bath Oil (regular scent, and not the lotion) works well as a repellent. I get one or two chigger bites instead of the ten or more I would get without it. I just slather it on all over before I go outside. Kind of a pain but I prefer that to the bug repellent sprays.
Thanks. I don't wan't to use something overly poisonous, as I have free ranging chickens and guineas. I also would like to keep my beneficials alive.
I really don't want to have to spray myself every day, but I do if I know I will be beyond my front and back yard.
