Potatoes with bugs

Atascadero, CA

Hi everyone. A few weeks ago I noticed tiny little holes in my potato leaves. They were small and I didn't see any bugs so I ignored it(STUPID me). Now the holes are out of hand and I finally found the culprit- Flea beetles. Sadly my potato plants are already close to dead and I have decided to harvest early and try again. Next year I want to be ready. What do you suggest using to kill flea beetles? I read somewhere to use Seven, but after reading the warning label I am hesitant. Is there something less toxic that would work well? Thanks for your help!

Here's some info: http://www.ext.colostate.edu/pubs/insect/05592.html Lots of options to try before resorting to chemicals.

Nasty critters. Same thing happened with my beans last year. I couldn't find them until it was too late.

I like the idea of row covers and will probably use that method if I grow broccoli again (cabbage worms!). Trap crops sound like a great idea, but for flea beetles? Seems like they'd just hop off before you could pull the plant and the bugs.
