2009 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds Vol. 4
Now I know some of you expert hummer folk have seen this, and its like the 3rd time Ive seen it.. a male hummer going back and forth in a "U" shape repeatedly..just kinda wanna know what this lil dance is about, him and a female were like little lightning bolts around my tree and then the male started his lil dance?
I have seen that too... no clue though
I believe that's a mating dance. Check out the mating section here:

Yup mating dance. More Hummer's :)
My husband and I were trying to figure out what the heck was wrong with our HB when we saw that weird display! Wait until I tell him it was the Stud making his move!
The dances Ive seen were different sizes. The day before it was about a 3 foot wide dance, but in June I seen one at a reserve that covered the width of a street, I was like what is wrong with that dragonfly...and as he flew off I saw it was a HB. Anyways its good to know more Hummers may be on the way. :)
nice Nanny
Very nice nanny!
Have you seen Ed this year?
That is a cheesy feeder! Kinda of a cheddar color even.
HB's are difficult to photo off a feeder, but the results are so much better. I love the pics of them on natural feed. Maybe when my honeysuckle gets established. I also have a small Desert Willow that is blooming and they are on it. I have a Black-chinned male that is in my back yard frequently, but he is really wary. Not about to get close to me.
red,the only way I get most of my pics, I have to use a tri pod with my point and shoot .
No.. it seems that Ed did not return this year I am sad to say....I have missed seeing him perched out there guarding his feeder. :(

love them all
New thread folks.... I am so fascinated by hummingbirds and flowers that I wanted to share with you a portion of my big family. In a typical year we have well over 100 hummers at a time. That translates to more than 25 # of sugar/week. Fortunately we have an abundance of hummingbird flowers planted around the house. Also found an interesting site on Google for a new book entitled HUMMINGBIRDS AND FLOWERS THEY LOVE. Does anybody know where I could pick up a copy other than on-line? Now if I can figure out how to paste my image everything will be fine.
Opps!
I started a new thread
