Ran across a little article on hummingbirds that may be of interest for some. It's an E-zine put out by the wildlife diversity section of the OK Dept of Wildlife Conservation. Has some tips on placing and cleaning feeders and some strategies to help ameliorate the territorial tendencies of the Ruby-throats.

I'm working on a little project that will provide some shade on the west side of my patio and a little HB habitat as well. Put up two 8ft vinyl fence posts with lattice between them. Found some large 5-gal Coral Honeysuckle plants in and have 3 of them in the ground. Set the posts yesterdan and putting up the lattice and tying them to it today. Only has a few blooms, but the hummers are already on them.
2009 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds Vol. 4
Burd...that nest is so cool...I look for one everyday as I am out walking but so far nada! Lucky you!
Beautiful Honeysuckle Mrs. Ed...hope they show for you soon!
Thanks Rose. I bought a new arbor for it to grow on. It's at my sister's right now because we couldn't bring it home in the car. I KNEW I should have taken the truck to that garden faire! Anyway, I'll add another honeysuckle to the other side of the arbor. My trumpet vine is in full bloom and taking over, and still no visitors. boo. But the butterflies should be coming on soon.
Awright! I just snapped my first-ever photo of a hummingbird.
I'm pretty sure this is a female Ruby-throated Hummingbird - I knew you all would know. I looked her up in one of my books. Looks something like a Rufous Hummingbird. Maybe I'll see some of thiosein a few months.
I read about using clear sugar water, so I brewed me up some. I poured out all my red colored water that I bought from Walmart and put in clear sugar water. Now, I'm starting to get some hummingbirds - nothing was coming to the red water. What comes to red I wonder?
Dang, they are tiny.
A Juvy Birder, the Hackster.

Nice pic Hackster! It looks like a Ruby-throated female to me.
They are so cute Rose!
From some of my reading it looks like, where in Ga, I'm not going to see a great variety of hummingbirds.
But I still want to snap the male Ruby-throated Hummer.

Wonderful shots Jay and Met!
Hugger...your gardens look so beautiful and that last shot is awesome! A friend of mine lived a few miles away and fed the Hummers for over 20 years and had hundreds of them. She moved last year and her house now sits empty. Luckily our area has lots of natural food for them.
29 acres...wow.
Lovely shots all. I've enjoyed looking at all of them; each has its own character. Thanks
I was out with the camera all day... (smoking ribs)... could not catch one of the little darlings
